Just returned from 5 days at WDW and just have to pass this on to warn those of you with small children and to give the rest of you a chuckle.

I purchased my long awaited hot dog from Casey's and was walking over to the Bakery to find DH. While standing on the curb w/dd waiting for him, one of the demon seagulls swooped down from behind me, and I kid you not, landed on my head. Needless to say I dropped said long awaited hot dog and within seconds there were six gulls at my feet, eating my hot dog while dd looked on in horror.

I looked up and down Main Street, but there was not a Disney employee in sight. (They probably all scattered when they saw the dive bombing bird!)

I did go back to Casey's and tell them what happened. They gave me another hot dog, which I ate under cover!!!

Needless to say, once dd realized I was all right, this became a great source of amusement to her and dh for the remainder of the trip.

But seriously, I never saw it coming and while he didn't draw blood, I did have a couple of welts on my head where his (yuck) feet were. If it had happened to a small child, they surely would have been knocked to the ground. These birds are very agressive. Take care when eating on Main St.

The seagulls and other "birds" aren't real??? They're Disney made "animtrionics" that have been designed to keep the parks clean!!!

This one obviously was malfunctioning and then the others showed up and did their job, as programed when the hot dog hit the ground.

:smooth:

(Yes, I am.)

Gawd Beast, how could you mislead them that way!
A computer virus was to blame for the attack. The seagulls thought they were at Itchy and Scratchy land instead.

:jester:

No offense, but that was pretty funny. I have experienced those demon birds at Animal Kingdom. I think they will eat just about anything. They are also people birds and are not frightened at all. Sorry to hear of you losing your hot dog and getting flogged!! Thanks for the good laugh though:)

I was on the beach at clearwater and the seagulls were running after my 10 year old and her grouper sandwitch. It was actually quite terrifying. I had to beat them off with a rolled up beach towel.

We saw a bird swipe a hot dog right out of a little girls hands at Caseys once. An older man screamed in broken English "that bird stole that girl's frankfurter"! They are also aggressive over at the Plaza outdoor tables.

We were at Wolfgang Pucks Express one night having pizza and I felt something hit my leg. There were ducks under the tables! They aren't dumb, they sit under there waiting for stuff to fall!

It's hard to keep these nasty birds (mainly the seagulls) away and it doesn't help that people feed them!

There are signs all over The Boardwalk, saying "Do Not Feed The Birds."
And there are people all over The Boardwalk feeding the birds.

There are more and more birds there all the time and they are very aggressive.
Especially the seagulls. They are big, ugly, loud, dirty, disease carrying birds!
I don't know why people think it's cute to feed them.

Last week we were walking around the MK and I saw a bird steal a fry right out of someone's plate. Didn't even think twice about it. It was hard not to laugh.

We saw the same thing on our trip. They seemed to really like Frontierland. Like others, I saw one swoop down and take a hotdog right out of a child's hand. Seems I heard Disney wanted to do some thinning out of the problem but the animal activists put a stop to it.

I think the activists ought to have to spend a day in a small cage with a 100 of them and maybe they'll change their minds. It really is unhealthy. You almost want to walk around with an umbrella just to protect your head.

My wife was walking away from the French Fry cart in Frontierland on 1/3 when a large Starling swooped over her head, grabbed a couple of fries, and lit out. Having seen Hitchcocks 'The Birds' several times, it upset her!
I also noticed Turkey Vultures (Buzzards) circling over & landing on Space Mountain.
What Disney needs to do is allow an EE day at the MK for a select group of people that own shotguns. End of problem.

We had a problem with them at the CBR. Yuck. They tell you
not to feed them but people still do. They would land right
on your table when you we're eating and try to steal your
food and the poop all around. Yuck.

:( That is the problem exactly. Far too many people think it is cute to throw food to the birds. This is the worst thing you can do. No one needs to feed these birds. The good Lord gave them means to feed themselves. Feeding them people food makes them extremly aggressive and vicious. Unfortunatley, this has gone on for so long that it has become a serious problem in certain areas.:(

These birds are actually pretty funny. The problem is people feed them, so they don't know any better.
Staying at ASmovies last yr , dbf and I were eating breakfast outside by the bar at those little tables. Well one of those demon birds decided to join us for breakfast. He sat on the third stool, and just watched. I felt so guilty for eating in front of him that after I was done I gave him the remains of my Mickey waffle.
So, all in all, I am also guilty of contributing to the demonic nature of these birds.

They are also horrible in tomorrowland. There is a little hot dog stand right in the center and they swoop down on you there also.

That's where I lost a hot dog! Onlookers were quite amused.

Wow! Thanks for the warning! I had no idea it was so serious! I will (seriously!!) be guarding my food (and protecting my head?) on my next trip!
I did notice at Epcot the birds were so "plentiful" (for lack of a better word) that it seemed like it could get out of hand at any moment. They were swooping down right at where the "walkway" is all along there around the water and sometimes they would swoop right in front of you making you have to stop suddenly for fear they were going to hit you or swipe you with their wings. I had no idea they might steal food or attack like that though. egads!

My wife and I decided to grab a sweet role in MGM at one of the carts for breakfast. We sat down at a bench surrounding the lake, and immediatly sparrows flocked to our feet. At first it was cute, but we soon found that it wasn't so cute 3 of them hopped right on my wifes lap and went straight for her plate. She stood up and shewed them away but they just kept coming back (I couldn't stop laughing) finally it got way out of control... all in all we counted 22 sparrows, and we decided to run away; they had her sweet role anyway so now they were just into protecting it. I am still ashamed that we let those birds win... lol. The huge crowd thought it was amusing, and to all those who were there laughing, you time will come the birds will get you too!!! lol

You guys are giving me the willies!!

I used to have nightmares as a child about birds (after seeing the movie) I still get squirmy thinking about them landing on me or getting too close!

If one landed on my head you would hear some serious screaming!

This whole thread is yucky, creepy, and just plain ewwwwww!

I'll certainly be keeping myself indoors while eating at WDW in the future.:p

Oh my I can't believe that thing just landed right on your head!!

UGH

Ruth

A seagull landed on my head while waiting in line in Tomorrowland for popcorn. I screamed, the bird flew away and everyone looked at me like I was a bit insane. I said, "A seagull landed on my head!". Everyone in line looked skeptical and took a few steps away from me;) . I am happy to be validated. :)

I had the samething happen to me in fanstasyland. I just bought a softserve ice cream cone and a bird came down to take some of the ice cream from the top of the cone, 5 seconds later another bird attacked and knocked the ice cream cone on the ground.
