We were there last week and it was there then too. I guess I should consider myself pretty lucky as this is the first time I've actually seen it in person. I'll admit, I used to think "who care, people are making a big deal out of nothing," but wow - it really is hideous! So we went to MK 3 times during our trip last week, and I will say this. 1) At first I thought about photoshopping it out, but the more I thought about it, I decided against doing that. This is when our trip was this year, and the crane happened to be up. It reflects our trip so I'm not going to change it. Plus, I don't know about you, but with the amount of pictures I take, that would be a lot of work. 2) Taking pictures from different angles will definitely allow for some crane-less shots, especially the closer you get. Looking from main street, there's was a great spot for us on the right side on the path next to the castle ramp. The rose garden/boat landing area at times was decent too. 3) At night, I don't know if it was dark or they just completely took it down (it was windy, so maybe there was a risk with the high winds), but we got some great, crane-less shots then, as the ugly yellow crane was nowhere to be seen. 4) Keep an eye on it during the day. They were working on it, so the crane moved. At one point, it was sort of behind the castle and wasn't visible at all. You sort of have to be quick because five minutes later it was back. Good luck
