Magic Kingdom After Hours coming back (DAH); Reviews: Page 18 >>

Already bought our tickets for March! I hated the price, but a WDW family trip is a rare thing for us, so we'd like to have as much "quality time" with MK as possible. Hearing that MK is never not busy these days scares me :scared:

It's almost half price for AP holders compared to what I paid when I went last year. I paid $149 plus tax, now AP holders are paying $89 plus tax. I would definitely do it again.

They overpriced it the first time, that is why it failed.

Thinking about doing this the second Friday... I'm on a short solo weekend. But I want to see how the first one goes - I'm only willing to pay the higher AP rate (vs last time) if the experience is the same as it was then.

Total loss of hours available to the general public over those days this year is 10 hours....almost a full day of park operations at that time of year.
I love statistics. You can make them "prove" almost anything - even when t h were isn't an actual cause-and-effect. Over 49 nights, guests 'lose' a total of ten hours of attraction access. Most affected are February visitors, and chances of anybody encountering more than two DAHs in a single visit are low.

I don't know of much that stays the same year over year.
January 18 & 19, 2017: MK closes at 8, just as it does January 20/DAH date
January 24, 25, 26, 2017: MK closes at 8, just as it does January 27/DAH date (closes at 6, 1/23)
January 30, 31, February 1, 3 2017: MK closes at 8, just as it does February 2/DAH date
February 5, 6, 7, 9 2017: MK closes at 8, just as it does February 9/DAH date
February 12, 13, 14 2017: MK closes at 8, just as it does February 16/DAH date
February 27, 28, March 1, 2017: MK closes at 8, just as it does March 2/DAH date
March 5, 6, 7, 8, 2017: MK closes at 8, just as it does March 9/DAH date

So while there is a small chance that someone who visited during the comparable 2016 dates might find themselves with zero to fewer MK hours, 2017 visitors will find the park is open the exact same hours on the days leading up to the DAH nights.

...but I would expect many of those February dates to be extended. Mardi Gras week last year never closed earlier than 10 (and most significantly later). Let's wait and see what the final MK hours are---and we probably will know most of them by mid-January.

If you read further, you would see where I had further explained (re: the cause and effect aspect):

I'm not assuming anything. There are less hours this year than there were last year, as of today when I posted that. You're right that there's no way to know whether the shortened hours are due specifically to this additional offering, or whether they would have been shortened hours regardless of the extra event ...but either way, those days have less operating hours in 2017 than they did in 2016 (again, as of this post). All I was saying is that there may be some people out there who don't appreciate the shortened hours (regardless of the reason for the shortened hours).

I doubt i 100% remember how long after afterhours was over the first time but I went from hitting disney twice a week to maybe lucky to visit on friday night or saturday because the hours changed and they starting to run the night entertainment timed to end at closing, not start at closing.

I do vividly remember animal kingdom was the only park still left open later though so it had to be very close (and there is only so many times you can walk around AK and hit the same 3 rides when what you want it MK to still be opened).

Not looking to debate and I don't disagree that starting about after hours the park hours were closing much earlier than I remember in the past and remained that the rest of the year. Just wanted to pass on what I remember about when hours dropped and dropped to the point it prohibited me from hitting hte parks on weekdays.

With the DAH Nights park hours exactly the same as all weekdays preceding each one, it's clear these events are not the cause of the MK closing hours.

My point wasn't what caused it. My point was that the hours are less than they were during the same time period in 2016 (at the time of my original post, anyway..haven't looked it up since). As you said, to those who only visit in 2017, that doesn't matter (and I never claimed it did). But for those who do go during the same time each year, it is a cutback on regular park hours and then turning around and offering some of the cut hours back at an extra cost. My point was that can be a turn off for people. The reason for the cuts is really immaterial to the overall point I was making.

DAH logically should not reduce regular park operating hours. The regular park operating hours are based on projected attendance and guest revenue. Disney has every incentive to max out revenue from the regular operating hours, which you have to keep in mind is not just a "cost" to be cut but a vital revenue source for souvenirs, services, snacks, etc. DAH exists because they've already maxed those out and they are looking for other ways to squeeze productivity out of the park. I'd still consider it a bit of a test, and they're giving it a chance to prove itself as a real engine for growth.

I guess the "popular demand" was from those who did it. We loved it and I said I would gladly do it again when doing the survey afterwards. It was a perfect night. Like having MK open for just DH and I. I would do this event again and again, without question.
I would love to do something like this but for my family of 5 it is always such a big expense. I may have to wait and experience one of these events on a trip that is just me and my husband. It always comes down to priorities - Staying at the Poly is definitely my priority over extra ticket events. But one day........when the kids are grown and I'm only paying for 2 park admissions........I will be at club villan!!!

They never gave away the full number of tickets based on what the MK CMs were told was the cap and then the number sold & comped each night.
Why am I never around when they give away stuff like this?? Who did they give these tickets too and why where they not able to GIVE AWAY all the tickets? Who wouldn't take a free ticket to an after hours event in MK? Am I missing something?

I might be a little upset if I had paid $119 for a ticket that ended up being given to a bunch of people for free

I had my eyes on if they would bring this back or not! Sadly, my next trip is March 3rd through the 8th. Looks like I will just miss this. I'm glad to see they reduced the price tag for this. However, after reading reviews and seeing photos from those that did this last time, it truly seems like a 'priceless' event given how limited the tickets are. It's the closest I'll ever get to having the park all to myself!

Since the event was virtually unknown and ticket sales embarrassing, to get more folks in and talking about it the gave tickets to some DVC members and random guests at Disney resorts, even a few reports of to park guests leaving a park earlier with no plans.

There was a set cap on number of tickets as with any special event. The number of tickets sold and comped never came close to that cap.

We went towards end where anyone could buy a ticket for around $75 - with others who paid full price. Gave them copies of our receipt to try to get refunded at GR.

I wasn't a bit upset that some folks may have been at the event free.
For one simple reason, getting a free ticket is random and a complete unknown. I wanted to go. No way to risk waiting and hoping on a free ticket when I could go for sure by buying a ticket. I'm never around when free stuff is doled out either. I'm not going to chance pixie dust when I want to do something and I'm not begrudging someone who did get it that way. I have no control over it

Debating - fly in that day and wonder if it is a good idea - thinking we can do rope drop the next am and do as much fur what my son and I world do but sounds so fun

I hate to tell you this, but anything you have to pay for at disney, someone got it for free and is standing near you. It might be easier to stomach when you dont' hear about it, hear they had something horrible happen, hear they are a wishes family or some circumstance but they do it a lot. Or maybe they got to the free dining before you did and because you had the opportunity to get it your happier when you didn't get it. DVC got the motherload of free tickets from what I remember, you could buy into dvc, spend lots more money than you do now with disney and had the chance for that perk.

I personally value the experience by what I got out of it. what someone else paid doesn't change my enjoyment of the event or the value it has to me. someone got a room upgrade to club level today.. does that bother you too?

Guess I never thought of it like that. And no - I don't think during my disney vacation "why have I not gotten somthing free on this trip" nor is my trip less of a wonderful experience because I paid full price. It is true that Disney gives out freebies all the time. I guess I was just speaking on this particular event since so many were upset about the cost. As I have said before, I enjoy staying at a deluxe resort and this is where I choose to spend my money - others may think its a waste. If you enjoy spending your money for a chance to go into the magic kingdom with very low crowds - spend it. Its your money. If your lucky enough to get a free ticket (or upgrade on your hotel), enjoy the pixie dust, right!!

what accident said is so true I can not tell you how many free things I have received at Disney form extra FP to 4 night at AKL and a lot in between, but with that said you could not pay me enough money to go thought what I went through to get the room at AKL ( I was staying at all stars) but Disney is a place that they do go out of there way to help guest out even if it is not Disney failt that something happened and this is why I go back to Disney year after year. ( or I should say month ofter month)
