Magic Key Program

Okay, I’m slightly confused and hoping you all can help. If I’m worried about the 120 days vs 90 days reservation, I could book a 5-day park hopper (for a 10 day trip) and make reservations at 120 days and then at the 90 day mark upgrade it to a MK and keep my reservations? I can’t book 2 5-day park hoppers because you can’t combine tickets to a MK? So, that wouldn’t help for all the days but for the first 5, right?

Also, do you need to reserve both parks each day to be able to park hop with a MK but only one with a regular park hopper ticket? I read through this entire thread and see conflicting information here.

So, Disneyland is not set up for 10-day trips. There is no way to have 10 reservations at once without buying two sets of 5-day tickets, only one of which you could upgrade into a Key. The most you can have with any of the Keys if you pre-purchased those is 6 days. You can’t upgrade a ticket to a Key until you use it, anyway. You also lose the reservations on a ticket when you turn it into a Key (at least for now, hopefully they’ll change that at some point?)

Anyway, with the current system, you can’t do what you want to do, really. But also, the Keys have only been out for a month, and you’re talking about something nine months away, so the landscape is likely to change quite a bit.

ETA: Currently all Magic Key reservations are hoppers and you just reserve the first park. That seems likely to change at some point based on the wording in their terms and conditions.

Yeah, it wasn't set up for 10 day trips even back years before Covid. They want you there and gone. That much has been clear for a while.

Losing the tickets when you upgrade is exactly the info I needed, thank you! Thank you for the park reservation info. Yeah, I def know they aren’t down with the 10 day trips but if we are coming from the other side of the country for our first trip we are going to stay for awhile. As a WDW AP (yeah I know it’s got new names now too), totally get the difference there and am so so so excited to finally see Disneyland!!!

A lot of people will tell you that 10 days is too long for Disneyland, but I thoroughly disagree. We love ten-day Disneyland trips. We will use one day to visit Hollywood and nine days at the parks. It allows us to have a nice relaxing trip and soak in the atmosphere, spend time relaxing at the pool, etc.

That’s so good to hear - and exactly what we are hoping for!!! Thank you!

I have the Believe key, but want to upgrade to Dream. I'm going on a day that is sold out for Dream key, so I'm using a 1-day ticket for that day. Does anyone know if it's possible to use a 1-day ticket towards the upgrade from Believe to Dream?

Unfortunately I don’t believe it’s possible.

Is there a way to check MK reservation availability without actually purchasing the MK first? I don’t want to buy until I can check availability on the dates I want for our first visit.

Does availability change depending on which level key you hold? I understand they are blocked on different days, but if they aren’t blocked...could availability differ?

Just know weekend (including Fridays) reservations are usually shown to be sold out about a month in advance.
Weekdays are usually sold out a few days in advance.
Some spots usually open up the night before the next day. For example, if you want to go on a Friday and it is showing sold out, check back Thursday evening to see if there are any openings.

One other question. If I purchase a MK today, I'm assuming I can make a reservation online immediately for a future date...but that my MK wouldn't actually be activated until I enter the parks for the 1st time. Is that correct?

Yes - I’ve made several MK reservations & have yet to activate my pass.

Has anyone received the welcome package yet? Trying to surprise DS by giving him the MK as a gift, and thought it would be fun to wrap up the welcome package for the reveal...but not sure how long it might take to get it. Thanks!

I haven’t. Bought my pass on release day and activated it on 9/5.

As far as I can tell from comments on various social media sources no one has. Disney said "6-8 weeks" in the fine print from what I recall which, counting weekends, would put those who bought first day seeing their welcome package some time between October 6 and October 20.

I can confirm for me. I bought 4 keys on the first day and haven't received anything.
