Magic in the Kingdom 2012! BIG 2/16/2014 FINAL UPDATE!

Somehow I’ve missed some updates, gotta keep better up to date! Lawl. Love the Disney on ice pictures!! They stopped coming to Canada years ago and it makes me so sad, we saw Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and one more that I don’t remember. I feel like I would like it better when they just do one show, but it’s cool that they combine stories into one big show now!!

Your costumes are absolutely beautiful! There was no doubt once I found your etsy shop that I knew where I’d be ordering from!! Those red gowns are gorgeous!!! In love with all the BOG pictures! That place is just too much for me sometimes, the first time I saw it in person I was in tears! Our dinner definitely took a while too, we were trying to get back to the princesses to catch the last set of a friend who was hanging with Rapunzel and dinner cut it too close! It is worth it though haha!

Amazing character pics! I love the ones of all the princesses with Katie in the evil queen outfit, perfect!! I’m sure they love it when more “rare” costumes come out to play!

Oh my gosh the shot you got that has Ariel and Eric and Jasmine and Aladdin all lovey eyes at each other, adorable!! I have to say though, the Christmas parade isn’t my favorite. I’ll watch it, but I’m not sure what it is, it’s just not the greatest to me. I also found it weird that the sign was at the end this year… AH! THAT! The shots of main street with the castle all lit up, those are pure magic.

That's weird that Scrooge wasn't out. I mean, I understand CM's have to go through a ton of training, and maybe rare characters don't have that many "friends" but still, odd. At least there was Mickey and Minnie together!

I hope you get to dine there this summer. It's really something to experience. It really was one of the high points on our trip. I'll have more BOG to come. We ended up eating in all 3 dining rooms! :)

I actually have a reservation booked, but no flights or hotels yet! :rotfl2: I do have my priorities! I will also be dining during the lunch hour. I can't wait! I think my dates will land sometime between Aug 14-30, but we are in the midst of negotiations and there is no school calendar for 2013-14 yet, so I don't know when we go back to school. My friend still has to wait a few days to put in her vacation request too. AND no deals for that time period yet with Disney, so I have been waiting somewhat impatiently. ;)

For now, I will just enjoy all your pictures!

Beautiful picture.

Today is the day Ive decided to get caught up. Maybe seeing all this fun and happiness will be motivating to me.

Oh yeah, I'm not at work, I took a "me" day.

Friday December 7th continued:

I had debated endlessly back and forth about Whispering Canyon Cafe. Our dining plan hadn't started yet, and they had recently changed the menu so that the all-you-can-eat skillet was the only dinner option. At around $33 a head, that didn't excite me with Katie included as an adult. But we just never seem to get there, and this was a good opportunity, so we gave it a go. I'm so glad we did. We were there a little early, so took the chance to look around the resort. It was absolutely gorgeous, and I can absolutely see why so many people love it. Fortunately it was early in the trip, so I had the energy to climb the stairs to the top floor and take all the photos I wanted of that gorgeous lobby. It felt like I was right back at the Grand Californian taking photos of that lobby on our trip west in 2010.

Next we were on to dinner. Now let me just say that Katie has never met a bottle of ketchup she didn't love. A lot. But Katie is 12 and embarrasses easily. So I really wasn't sure about our dinner plans. But we were there..... so in we went.

IMG_7364 by mom2rtk, on Flickr

As I mentioned, our dining plan hadn't started, so I asked the waitress if Katie could order off the kids menu. She said sure, as long as she didn't also share form our skillet. Katie was happy since she wanted a hamburger anyway. And that's when it dawned on me that I was glad the waitress said yes. Without that hamburger, Katie would not have needed to ask for the............... KETCHUP! LOL. Actually, it wasn't as funny as it sounded. She didn't ask for it and get surprised. It was more of a slow gag. She saw the other kids around the restaurant ask for ketchup and have to endure everyone staring and laughing. I just kept telling her it was a shame she was going to have to eat that hamburger and fries dry. Eventually she caved and was showered with .......... KETCHUP!

After checking it all out, we headed back to the boat dock and headed for the Fort. Try as I might, I could not get a clear shot of the Contemporary in the low light from a moving boat:

So I'll apologize now, I'm going to gush over your photos and probably "quote reply" your posts and clog up your TR just so I can keep up with my thoughts as I go through.

The lobby is gorgeous! I think I would have climbed the stairs ever if I was tired. Your pictures are stunning.

I recognize your waitress as the one we had back in Sept 2011. She put John in jail for stealing ketchup, that really Kadence stole from another table because she was scared to ask for ketchup. He took the rap. What a nice Daddy.

I think you guys could have used a bottle or two more.::yes::

Now I want to add Tusker house into our ADR list. I already have more ADR's than I should on my list.

Love the safari photos, and I agree with Jen, Mr Lion was being "friendly" and the Mrs just looked bored. :lmao: Doesn't do much for his rep......;)

I rode Dinosaur all by myself in Nov. It was okay, I don't think I'll be getting Kadence on that anytime soon.

We've still not seen DeVine. maybe I need to slow down.

Katie did good, she must like the ducks. Kadence would have taken lots of self photos and trees.

I'm really enjoying reading though today.

Love the morning AoA pictures. I guess absence makes one forget the walk and I'm missing AoA right now. I love that we spent the time to fully explore and take it all in.

The movie UP. I've seen it, I will never watch it again. The beginning of that movie is heartbreaking.

Kadence watches it every once in a while, and while I don't think she quite understands the events that begin the movie, the rest is fun to her. She like the dogs that talk. She's sad we missed the M&G with them last year.

From there we headed to Dinoland to find Goofy Santa and Pluto. The line was long, but moved fairly quickly. The Photopass photographer was sort of snotty, but I refrained from filing a complaint on the way out. We had been looking the wrong direction on the last shot, so I just asked her to take one more. She didn't even get her camera all the way up before the flash went off and we were ushered away. Lovely. There was clearly a dose of attitude with that last shot. And it's not like I had taken up a ton of time. I am very effecient at character meets. Katie knows the drill so we don't waste much time, especially in meets like this where the characters can't talk.

Sorry to hear that, I had a rude on too on Main St. in MK. We had been waiting patiently for our turn, and the family in front was almost done and the PP took a magic shot of the little boy.
Our turn, I asked if he could do a magic shot and he acted put out. I got it but it's not great quality.
You have one job, I'm sure set hours, why the attitude?

I'm jealous. I really want to do the DTD balloon. I apparently tour with the wrong people!:)

edited to add, I think the rest is VERY important on MVMCP nights though. That would have been a hard one for me to decide.

The Disney on Ice photos are terrific!!:thumbsup2

I haven't been to Disney on Ice since Sam was 18 months old! I know Kadence is deprived.......:sad2: Maybe next year when we have no plans to go to WDW.

The arena that the show usually comes to is in Green Bay, and they allowed me my DSLR in when I seen Reba. It's a good thing to check out though.

HA! Katie played Evil Queen great! I love Flynns face in the first photo.

Great interaction with Snow White and the Prince.

Okay, gonna put it out there. At BOG, they wouldn't let you split the girls, even thought it was two different rooms? I will have 2 different rooms on our ADR in Nov and I really want to get the girls split. Maybe act like we aren't together? I've still got so much planning to start. Yes, I said start. MY ADR window is May 12th and I have no days lined up or much of anything done. I need a kick.

I really enjoyed seeing the parade from a different angle. I think you really captured the decor to set the scene.

I'm seeing you say your feet hurt, then I think back to the llloooonnnnnggggggg walk back to the LM rooms. I bet stealing one of those laundry carts was a thought!

Congrats to your son on choosing his college. Rolla, thanks to Sam I know a good motel in the area that's cheap and has free breakfast! Oh and she was through Kansas City again this weekend. Meet her dippy sister in Kansas to hand off the baby niece. I'm not even sure you want my email that I keep adding to. :faint:

All caught up, now on to Jen's. I'd better get some food and get comfortable.

Just got caught up. I have been showing my husband all your safari pictures, they are gorgeous!

I'm in and caught up! I've read your other reports and love the time and detail you put into the costumes. As a grown up, I have to take full advantage of MNSSHP for that outlet :lmao: I'm also a fellow Belle lover and really hope that Beast is still doing the photo op after dinner at BoG in the fall.

Technically off topic - Can you not reply to threads in the completed trip reports section? I couldn't figure out how, so sorry for bringing in old trip reports but -

I just read through your ENTIRE December 2010 trip, and it was pretty magical. When I had seen you around on the boards before I kept thinking your icon reminded me of my younger sister, and then once I started reading your trip reports that just magnified even more especially since her name is Katie, too! Your costumes are amazing and I wish both that I had the skill to make that kind of beautiful dress or else that my mom had been able to make me such detailed costumes. Your photography also made reading through SO MANY PAGES a BREEZE. I just had my first trip to Disney last month (this probably would have inspired me to do a trip report of my own but it looks like my friend has started one already haha) and feel like I learned so much from you that I'd love to try for my next trip and especially if I ever make it to one of the parties.

I feel like I'm writing a fan letter lol but I really just thought everything was so well done and I had a great time reading.

I really hoped that as I continued I would have seen a Mulan dress!! She is my FAVORITE princess, but maybe Katie doesn't care for her? Or maybe you did it on another trip instead? I'm a huge princess fan in general though so that's probably why I loved reading all about your adventures together. I'm excited to read through your 2 most recent reports to find out if Katie is still into dressing up at the parks haha. Some of my favorite of your costumes were the Mary Poppins (so stunning and I'm sure they don't get TOO many Marys), and the Cinderella dress from that trip. Katie also looked stunning in the Tiana gown.

Hey everyone! I hope everyone had a great Mother's Day! :)

You guys didn't REALLY think I abandoned my trip report, did you? :teeth:

It's just been nutty busy with Timmy playing on the tennis team and Katie playing softball. I've just been racing from one thing to the next. Unfortunately I'm still racing so don't have an update ready to go, but I promise I'll make up for lost time soon enough. I just don't know if that will be before we head for Florida in early June or not.

Timmy graduates Sunday. So hopefully I'll have a few photos to share from that at least. :cool1: You know, they really need a smiley with a graduation cap!

Congratulations to your son on picking a school! Ugh those days were rough enough from my standpoint, I can only imagine how my parents felt! No wonder your life has been so crazy. I think going away to school is good for everyone to experience when they're young. I ended up not liking it and transferring closer to home after a year and a half, but I'm glad that I had the experience and don't spend my time wondering what I was missing. Plus, there's no faster way to push a teen into independence lol!

The BoG pictures look awesome. So excited to eat there. And I love the girls in their red gowns. They look so much more grown up this time. Also, I agree with the previous comment that Katie would make a gorgeous Belle!! That's pretty annoying that they wouldn't let you take separate shots of the girls.

I think your pictures of the parade look amazing. I see your point with not being able to capture their faces as well but the more aerial view of the parade is stunning. How nice of those girls to "save" seats for you rotfl. I have to wonder what they had been doing until then. Were they just sitting there since the party started? So silly.

Ugh no Scrooge Mcduck? Disney certainly wasn't scoring any points with you on character M&Gs this party. I get that things happen but a replacement would've been nice.

Also, I love love the pictures of Katie with Snow White and the prince! She embraced the villain role well! Maybe you'll have a new set of outfits to be working on in the teen years ?

Thanks so much. It really was quite an involved process to get to Timmy actually choosing a school. I sort of knew going into it that he would run it up to the wire. He likes to take his time making decisions. It's a running joke here that you could say "Do you want a million dollars?" and he'd say "I don't know......" But I'm glad he doesn't rush into things. He's seen some friends rush into things that go them into trouble and it's only made him more cautious.

I'm glad he's going away to school because it will indeed strengthen his independence and I think once he gets adjusted he'll enjoy it. But I'll boo-hooing all over the place here when he goes. Everyone, just start stocking up on virtual tissues, ok?

Thanks for the kind words on the photos. BOG really is an amazing addition to the park. I'd love to have a chance to shoot it with a tripod, but I'm thinking nobody wants me setting up a tripod next to their table while they eat dinner! :rotfl:

I'm guessing the girls sitting up in the chairs at the train station were indeed hiding up there hoping to escape the wristband police until the parade was over. I think they do lighten up on checking wristbands later in the evening, and they were probably going on their way after the parade. I've read stories from others of them doing a check up there, but never seen it.

I have long thought it would be fun to move on to the Villains as Katie got older, so it was fun to finally do one for her. She wants to do Maleficent one day, but I told her I'd only do it if she paints her face green! :)

I think it has gotten more common for Disney on Ice to do the combo shows like that now, probably to appeal to a broader base of fans. I know the year they did the Monsters on Ice show was one of the few years we didn't go. We went to Nemo on Ice and enjoyed it, but not as much as some of the other shows we have seen through the years. Thanks for the comments on the photos. It was a lot of fun to shoot the show and see what I could come up with. I really wish I could have done the same thing when we saw Mary Poppins a few weeks ago.

BOG really is quite amazing. I hope to get back there one day. It's one of the things I'll miss about heading to DL instead of WDW this year. Katie and I are going to the MK for one day in June. My plan is to get there in the late afternoon and stay through the EMH until 1. I was REALLY tempted to get there a little earlier to catch the tail end of lunch at BOG, but don't think we'll make it in time. I'm thinking we'll get a pork shank at Gaston's instead. :)

I love the Christmas parade to pieces. The toy soldiers are my favorites. But mostly I just like sitting there on Main Street, with the garlands lit up overhead, staring down at the castle. That's about as good as it gets in my book. :goodvibes

I really did enjoy getting to see Mickey and Minnie together, especially since they have split them up during regular park hours now. But those costumes just don't grab me. They've been in those for several years now, so you watch. They'll get something new this year since we won't be there! :lmao:

I also thought it was pretty odd for Scrooge not to be out. It just never occurred to me that one of the rare characters offered for the party might not be there. I know they have to be trained to be a certain character, and people do get sick, but surely they have a backup plan? They are charging a premium price of those events. We were lucky that we actually were going to 2 parties and would have another shot at it. But most people don't. And Drew didn't, so he never got to see one of a very few characters he actually cared about meeting.

Did you get any dates firmed up yet? I often have said that as great as a Disney trip is, the anticipation and planning is at least as fun. I hope you have something in the works!

It's killing me to watch others planning their WDW trips right now and making ADRs. If we were heading that direction this year, I'd be in full planning mode. But DLR is a whole different creature. I've been trying to visit the DL board more often to get up to date on everything there.

This reply is ALL Carey's! :cool1: So glad to see you posting a little more. I know it's been a tough spring for you, and I sure hope you're ready for some doses of Disney again. :goodvibes

Beautiful picture.

IMG_7338 by mom2rtk, on Flickr

Today is the day Ive decided to get caught up. Maybe seeing all this fun and happiness will be motivating to me.

Oh yeah, I'm not at work, I took a "me" day.

Thanks Carey. I loved that photo too. One of the things I loved is that it wasn't the least bit planned. It just appeared there for me. A happy surprise. :)

Good for you taking a "me" day. But since that was almost a month ago that you posted that, I bet you're due for another one! :lmao:

So I'll apologize now, I'm going to gush over your photos and probably "quote reply" your posts and clog up your TR just so I can keep up with my thoughts as I go through.

The lobby is gorgeous! I think I would have climbed the stairs ever if I was tired. Your pictures are stunning.

I recognize your waitress as the one we had back in Sept 2011. She put John in jail for stealing ketchup, that really Kadence stole from another table because she was scared to ask for ketchup. He took the rap. What a nice Daddy.

I think you guys could have used a bottle or two more.::yes::

No apologies necessary. I need to thank YOU for keeping my trip report alive while I was being off doing other things! :cool1:

I thought that waitress was just perfect. Lots of fun, but not so much that it put Katie off. It was a great evening.

I think I would have climbed the stairs if I was tired (Well, I was sort of tired already. We had been in the MK all day! But it WAS our first park day.....) but later in the trip I probably just wouldn't have climbed as MANY of those stairs! :)

I need to tell you how beautiful Katie is.::yes::

Thanks Carey. :goodvibes

OK, so did you go for Tusker House? We think it's just the best way to start a day at AK. It's so hard though when push comes to shove and you have to pare down that list at ADR time..........

Definitely try to find DeVine. She is just so uniquely Disney.

LOL, I better not tell Katie Kadence likes to take photos of the trees. Or she'll fill up my memory card even faster. And she's good at the self portraits with her ipod, but it's a lot harder with the DSLR.

This is awesome! I never even thought of doing that. I'm going to now!

Kadence is going to LOVE this photo!

So aren't you glad I've added even MORE stair climbing to your next trip? Are you staying at AoA?

And yes, I thought of Kadence and all her awesome poses when I took that photo of Katie with the Tweedles cutouts at DTD. :)

I'm usually good at the early morning walks around the resort. But once I'm back at night....... :faint:

Katie had seen Up before, but didn't get what happened at the beginning either. I explained it to her when we watched it together. I'm sad we never did their M&G either. We stopped to see the Wreck It Ralph characters this year, even though we still haven't seen that one. One day maybe my DIS friends will shame me into that one too! :lmao:

Sorry to hear that, I had a rude on too on Main St. in MK. We had been waiting patiently for our turn, and the family in front was almost done and the PP took a magic shot of the little boy.
Our turn, I asked if he could do a magic shot and he acted put out. I got it but it's not great quality.
You have one job, I'm sure set hours, why the attitude?

I don't get it either. I was ticked at the time and thought about saying something but let it go. It just strikes me as odd now. I never quite got it. The line was long-ish, but not terrible. And it would have taken what.....5 more seconds (if that) to take another shot? I guess maybe she was put off that I would question whether she herself noticed the issue but didn't say anything? Who the heck knows.

Same thing with your magic shot. Just dumb. And if you get one with an attitude, it really DOES show up in your photos.

I'm jealous. I really want to do the DTD balloon. I apparently tour with the wrong people!:)

edited to add, I think the rest is VERY important on MVMCP nights though. That would have been a hard one for me to decide.

LOL, then you need to tour with Drew! He's the one who pushed me into it. Of course, he was meeting us later that night, so he didn't lose all his rest time like Katie and I did.

You have clearly been neglecting your daughter's Disney education. Now get on the ball before I report you! Opening night tickets are $10 and if you act quickly, you can get GREAT seats for that price. Of course, I always feel bad by depriving them of more ticket dollars, so donate some more cash buying a $15 snow cone! :rotfl:

They don't have a clue at BOG how many rooms you have, just that you were one party for dining.

FWIW.... I heard ahead of that night that there would be only one photo per party, so it didn't come as a complete shock. But given that there were only a couple people behind us, it wouldn't have killed them to let me take a couple more shots. Maybe 15 seconds? I'm really fast, but I guess maybe they don't know that. Still, I have heard MANY more stories since getting back that people were able to get more than one shot. In fact, later in our trip we got some individuals. But I would have liked them in the red gowns that way too.

All caught up, now on to Jen's. I'd better get some food and get comfortable.

It was nice to see the parade from another angle. But I did miss not seeing it up close and personal. But I'm glad to mark that off my "to do" list so it doesn't keep nagging at me.

We're all very happy to have Timmy moving forward with his college choice. We have to go down in June for enrollment. It's been a long year. :goodvibes But it's coming to a close and while I'm ready for summer (so is Timmy!) it only moves us closer to August. I'm sorry, but you guys are going to get really tired of hearing me say that. I'm going to try hard not to cry at graduation, but I'm sure I will. It will be different than it was with Robbie because he wasn't gearing up to leave home.

Just got caught up. I have been showing my husband all your safari pictures, they are gorgeous!

Thanks so much! I just love the safari. It's sort of a different ride each and every time. Just once I want to plan enough time at AK to do the Safari 2 or 3 times in a day.

I figure I have maybe a year or 2 more of taking Katie out of school for a week in December. After that I think I'll have to settle for a shorter trip tied into her October break. Of course we'll both LOVE that it means we'll get to do MNSSHP again! I could see doing different costumes for both of us for 2 or 3 nights of the party!

BOG has been such a huge hit in New Fantasyland that I just can't see them taking him away from there any time soon. Who knows what crazy things could happen though when the bean counters get involved. I'm sure they could still fill that restaurant without him, but he just belongs there. :goodvibes

I think after a trip report has been dormant for a period of time, they close it to new comments. I guess I'm lucky they didn't do that to this one! :lmao:

Thanks so much for reading along! :surfweb: There's still a long way to go o this one, so you're here in plenty of time.

You know, I actually thought about doing a Mulan costume. Even bought a pattern. But just never got around to it. Besides, I actually have pictures of Katie with Mulan in one of the Disney Store Mulan costumes. I actually think they did a nice job on several versions of that through the years. So when I put together the costume scrapbook I have in mind one day, I'll have something there for Mulan. Of course, part of the problem is that we can only meet her in Epcot, and we usually just don't give justice to that park. We did find her this last trip. But it had been several years. But no costume.

Thanks for the kind words on the costumes. Mary is really one of my favorites. Katie sure loved that Tiana gown. It's a shame it was so cold that year or she would have left it on longer. If you peek through the summer 2010 trip report also linked in my signature, you'll see that Tiana also made the trip west to Disneyland that summer.

I'm actually working on a new Cindy gown right now, something closer to the new park version. We're about done with the costumes, but Katie is good with doing one or two per trip. I'd really like to try something like the new park Aurora, but haven't seen any fabric yet for that.
