magic express and canadians?

Funny you should mention baggage handlers not being checked before their shifts.....I was watching the news this morning and they were reporting on how the baggage handlers that load and unload the luggage on and off of the plane are not checked. There was a huge drug bust called Operation Snow Storm where a bunch of handlers had been smuggling drugs through planes:

I never check my bags. I always go carry on. I'm not keen on losing sight of my stuff! We used ME still, but like I said, we didn't check anything.

Are you trying to say that those who load and unload our luggage onto the aircrafts are not screened through security at all going in or out of their shift?

mostly, yes

Do you work there? Do you have proof?

Seriously, if it was that laxed - there'd be many more planes exploding.

There have been numerous examples of lax security -- the workers are not physically checked (ie they do not walk through metal detectors, etc). Here is one example (though a USA example)http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=34145

Here is a Canadian Senate report on airport security - note the section titled "Out of Sight Out of Mind" http://www.parl.gc.ca/37/2/parlbus/...-e/rep05jan03-e.htm#Out of Sight, Out of Mind

Also, it is not uncommon to read in the newspaper about airport workers being arrested on smuggling charges - the police acknowledge there is more going on, than they are catching (the workers can smuggle, as they are not physically checked.....).

On your question as to why are not more airplanes being blown up, that is probably a more theoretical question for another (long) thread. However, let's not forget Lenin's comment -- the purpose of terrorism is to terrorize.

I don't mean to scare you (and I fear I might based on your paranoia comment) but airline security isn't that tight (and DME security is on par with airlien/airport security). The only way to absolutely ensure your belongings are not touched is to keep them with you in your personal possession at all times. Otherwise, you have to trust the complete system.

With regard to DME, the system has been in operation for 7 months (and with DCL for years). If there was a big problem with theft or interference, these boards would be humming with actual facts. We have read about a few bags being lost, but bags are lost on airplanes every day - who knows if the problem happened with DME or the airline.

Non-US citizens generally may not check baggage at the resort when flying directly home. The baggage has to be hand carried through customs at Orlando Airport.

(Do Canadians returning home clear customs on Canadian soil instead?)

Magical Express resort checkout airline baggage check in is an extension of airport services as opposed to a resort bellhop service, so if you are asked if your luggage was out of your possession the answer is the same as if you checked the baggage with an airport skycap or at an airport ticket counter.

Going to Disney, there have been reports of "superfluous" baggage tags such as the yellow ME tags being manually torn off, more often during international travel as opposed to domestic travel. The suggestion has been made to attach the yellow tags after clearing customs.
