Magic Christmas Cruise 2010 (Dec 18th - 29th) - PART II

Hello! I am still feeling unsure about the FE gifts. Can anyone give me examples of things that you give or have given and how much you spend per room? Thanks so much!

Getting so excited and a little overwhelmed!!

Hi Ahugenberg,

Below are two links for threads on the main boards about FE gifts. One is for homemade gifts and the other is for not homemade. These are just some ideas and I think the thing to remember is to not get too stressed out about FEs because it is not so much about the gift but about the fun. Gifts can be as simple and inexpensive or complex and expensive as you want. Just a couple of simple ideas - recipe cards(drinks or favorite foods), CD with cruise music, survival kits, or with it being Christmas you could just put a few candy canes in each FE. Some complex things - specially printed items, or some kind of craft item that you make. Again, the biggest thing to remember is not to stress youself out about it and have fun. Hope this helps.

THANK YOU.... THANK YOU.... THANK YOU.... Wifey and I were starting to stress about what to do without breaking the bank. We aren't exactly the crafty type. In fact, I have absolutely no craft skills whatsoever. Creative...yes, I can build stuff, but crafty...not so much. Do any of you parents have kids with specific allergies? Mine have celiacs (Wheat/ Gluten intolerance) so if you have specific allergy issues, PM me and I will make sure whatever we put together doesn't affect you should we go the edible route. On the other hand, wifey and I love our gluten so no one needs to do anything special for our cabin.

The full fishy list is on google docs!:thumbsup2:cool1: I am working on PMing people the link. You will note that several are still missing cabin #s - please feel free to add that information in as you receive it. I will do another sort and clean up the list closer to sail date. Also, there are 63 cabins not 62 due to a data entry error on my part sorry about that. I still only have 10 wanting the split. I know a couple felt very strongly about this option so I will throw it out to you few to see what you want to do.
:rotfl::rolleyes1:laundy:

Thank you so much for doing all this FE organizing! I think it will make for a very Merry ship. I can't wait to start making FE deliveries!
:santa:

Hey Jarod!

You are very welcome. Please don't stress and remember it is all about FUN, FUN, FUN!!!!!!!

One cruising tip I seem to see over and over is, unpack 50% of what you've packed. It's a bit harder this time for me (than cruising in September) b/c of needing layers depending on the weather...I find it very hard not to over pack for vacations!

We pack very heavy and bring several outfits per day, if you can believe it. The fun of the cruise is being able to wear those clothes I might not be able to pull off in "real life" - all the tropical stuff and pirate-inspired stuff and fancy dress stuff - it's the one place where any fun outfit looks appropriate... Bring on the high heels and mouse ears!
:earsboy:

Picking up 3 more suitcases today... That will be 6.. I think Im going to pack 6 very light... instead of 5 very heavy... DS & I (DH) will easily fit into 2... That leaves FOUR suitcases for DW & DD... :rolleyes1

38 days til vaca...

Cool! I like that counting better-we leave the day before and the Mickey Christmas dry erase board that is on the frig is going with us so I think I'll change mine to 38, too. :)

Hey..
The cruise line--and, more importantly, my refrigerator---says 39 days! How are you counting???

We're on 801 hours :) Our countdown clock goes to hours when to less than 40 days and we fly out to the States on the 13th Dec :yay:

I know several people did not make the last group - I don't mind trying to put another one together to see if there is additional group space available - this has to be done 30 days prior to sailing. If you want to be included PM me asap. Thank you.

My wife and I would like to join this. PM sent.

I asked Shirley at The Perfect Gift about her trees for a cruise and this is what she sent, if anyone is interested:

Here is a better picture of the boxwood tree and this can either be decorated with flowers or lights and ornaments - I will send you a picture of the artificial tree next -this is 24 inches high and it really is very pretty and sells for $75.00
I know the trees that DCL offered and they were made by a wholesaler down South and were not done the way they were suppose to be done but when you make mass production, you will not get what you expected.
Ours are made from fresh boxwood greens and takes close to 2 hours - they are made with wet oasis which are soaked for several days to make sure they are wet through and through, then the building begins - it is put in a container that holds water so that water can be added to it as need be. The trees are about 24" tall and totally decorated with ornaments and battery lights (we send extra batteries) - here is a picture of one, but it is just off the Internet to give you an idea, but ours are fuller.
They will last and no they will not stink - we have sent many to the ship including artificial ones that could be taken home in a box.
Let me know if you have any further questions
Always
Shirley

Would this be for brunch? If so, we might be interested (have to check with DH) since we booked too late to get brunch.

miatamel - Thanks for the information. We definitely want to have some sort of tree in our room for the younger boys and this would certainly do the trick.

We also want to find some Mickey Christmas window clings to put on the stateroom door but have struck out so far at the local stores.

Has anyone else read Cruise Confidential by Brian Bruns? A friend recommended it and I was able to find a copy at our library. Not the best written book I have read but it certainly gives you a different perspective on the lives of the crew on board and it is pretty funny. I know I will have a much greater appreciation for the dining staff when we board the Magic. See you all in less than 6 weeks!!
