Magic Christmas Cruise 2010 (Dec 18th - 29th) - PART II

This is our first time doing the FE....What are the zip ties for?

The zip ties are to make sure no one steals the FE from the lil fishie outside yer door.[/QUOTE]

We have cruised 17 times, and never had our FE taken from our door. Usually they are personalized, so who would want them anyway?

I assume it is okay to bring on board for your cabin a little 3 foot artificial Christmas tree??? Since we drive to the ship and the tree is in a very light box, I would like to just carry it on. It has lights on it but we would only plug in the lights when we are in the cabin. I thought it would look great on the desk and there is a plug right there too (I always bring my own hair dryer ... absolutely hate the ones in the cabin and that's where I plug in the dryer). Think it's ok to bring?

Cannot find the link to substantiate it, but I think plug in lights are not allowed. I know there there are battery powered lights out there that might be OK. I am sure someone will come along with more info. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer :sad1:

No problem. We just won't plug them in. As long as the tree is ok.

I

Anyone have a suggestion of where I might find the correct size collapsable cooler to carry on? How many carry-ons can we bring? DH might want Diet DP and I'd like to bring some wine and a couple premixed margarita bottles. Or not...the holiday drinks of the day sounded very yummy. I might have to walk with the groups at 6, 7 & 8am....:yay:

I think you can bring as many carry on items that you want to lug around. We try to check anything we can with the Disney baggage handlers. Anything glass should be in a carry on, but the canned cases of Diet DP can be in a suitcase that is padded with some clothing with no problem I have brought boxes of wine in my checked luggage before. :santa:

How dressy is everyone getting? I have two long dresses for the formal (if I can fit in them, lol); but what are you wearing for the semi-formal? Can I double dip - wear my semi-formal also to Palo? I think I brought enough for each night on the 7 night, but with 11 nights, I'd like to be more realistic. I know I had tons of stuff I didn't wear.

I always wear my dresses at least 2 times on a long cruise. I only took 2 long dresses on our Med(10night)/TA(14night) and it worked out fine. I did buy a short skirt and top in Gibraltar. I could have brought more skirts and mixable tops, which is what I plan to do this time.

We were allowed to have the battery operated string of lights on our tree during last year's Christmas cruise. Be warned, though ... those strings of light eat through batteries at a really fast pace!!

Did I count 16 GTY 12 cabins book by our group? Let's see... there are only 13 of those cabins on the ship... I'm guessing some of you will be upgraded.

For our Baltic cruise we booked 2 GTY 12s and got upgraded to cat 11s - the sideways kind. We really wanted connecting rooms (none of the 12s or 11s are connecting) so we upgraded once more on board up to cat 9s.

I think I've been able to add all the recent additions to the roll call. Welcome everyone!

You can see see the Dream moving out on the webcam...I've had it up on my computer for over an hour and keep taking breaks in my housecleaning to see its progress. Soo cool!

Hi, My daughter and I are going on the cruise with friends. Booked a few weeks ago. So excited. Hopefully going to do some of the group stuff if I ever figure it out!

Welcome petdoc! Guessing you are a vet? How old is your daughter? We have one that is 17, but still a big Disney fan!
Looking forward to meeting everyone!

We booked this cruise at the beginning of October. At that point my goal was to read through all of part 2 and then introduce ourselves. Well unfortunately I have been sick most of October and therefore didn't make it through reading as quickly as I had hoped. My husband keeps asking me what page I am on and when will I be making the post? Well today is the day - haven't made it to the last post yet but I am not going to wait any longer!:cool1:

We are me (DW) I am a teacher :teacher: who has always taught grades 4 - 6 and moved to kindergarten this year. I am now catching every bug that is brought in to my room! I am a huge power walker and look forward to joining the walking group, I have completed 8 half marathons, 1-15km race, 3-10 km races and 5-5km races in the last year.

My DH is a pilot for Air Canada and is only able to stay on the cruise until Barbados as he will not have Christmas off this year. He trains for marathons and coaches my daughter's hockey team.

We have a DS -15 and a DD - 12 (yes another 12 year old girl). Both have played many years of rep hockey. My son has left the competitive hockey and taken up tournament golf now, but my daughter continues to be on the ice for hockey 4 - 5 times per week.

This is our 4th Disney Cruise - we were on the Christmas 2004 cruise and look forward to meeting everyone. My DH and kids are heading down on Dec. 16 and I will fly out afterschool on Dec. 17.

We live just outside Toronto.

I want to sign up too. Do I mention it here or reply to the people at the beginning? Confused.

:welcome: Welcome Aboard! :welcome:

Just PM tinkmischief and she will add you to the FE list.

Can someone provide the link for the info for FE's for a beginner...
Thanks!

Hi Lolobellica - do you want the link for how to make FEs or just more information on them? There is a little bit of information in the FAQ sticky at the top of the main DCL thread page and you can do a search too. If these don't help let me know and I will see if I can find some other links for you.

momssurprise - you can bring on as many carry-ons as you can carry and keep track of. Just remember the cabins are not available until 1:30pm.

I quoted the above post because I have issues with other posters telling people to put liquids in their checked luggage. DCL policy allows us to bring liquids(water, soda, alcohol) on board but they specifically state that it must be in a carry-on. This is just one of my pet peeves and I have to say something when I see someone post this. If people continue to break the rules then at some point DCL might take this perk away and I would hate to see that happen. We always take wine, beer, and some sodas on board and we always take them in our carry-ons. I'll get off my soap-box now.:cloud9:

I got your PM and sent one back. I see you posted while I was posting so I missed it.

We were on the Christmas 2004 cruise too!

Hello everyone! I am currently serving in Iraq, and signed up for this cruise during my R&R leave.... It will be our first cruise for myself, DH and DD-5. We are super excited to be spending Christmas :santa: together and even more excited to be doing it on such a fabulous cruise!

I know that I am late getting into the game, but would love to participate in FE, ornament exchange, meet & greets, etc. etc.

Any advice/contacts/links you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Counting down the days until I take that long flight home.....

:cloud9:

What is everyone doing with their 4-legged babies for such a long trip? I'm really a bit undone about leaving mine for that long.

My DD 12 would like to connect with some girls before the cruise. She is so excited and has a countdown calendar that she created beside her bed. Each morning she rips off a page to reveal the number of days before the cruise departs. We are not allowing her on the teen board, but I know I have read that others with DD 12 were connecting by email. Please either PM me or post and we will PM you.

DS is a little more reserved, but we are encouraging him to read the teen board. He is athletic so we are hoping he will make some friends through sports.

Sorry, can't recall who was making the name tags but we would love to get in. If you have changed your mind and need to collect $ just let us know:

Phil
Tracey
Drew
Hilary

Still undecided on FE - will decide before deadline which is looming overhead.

I know there were other things I wanted to ask/comment on but will get back to that as I read more....
