Magic Bands - Used?

Just saw this video on special effects

And with magic mobile there are new effects (just saw this as well); you can add your own music (interact with iPhone) and make it open apps on your phone

Magic mobile:

Edit: I still have to show my Disney visa credit card to get a discount, even though I have Magic Mobile and it never opens the room door.

Also, make sure only one band is ‘active’ in your profile and others are deactivated. For some reason my old bands keep showing lost/stolen even though I deactivated each one

It’s more of a risk if it gets stolen or misplaced and is still active. Some places don’t need a pin to order so someone can place an order with your band.

IT issues: When we added a guest to our resort and tickets, we had to spend 2 hours at a hot ticket booth (wouldn’t allow us to go to the Guest Services on the far left) in Epcot to validate and then another 1.5 hr during MNSSHP to validate that the tickets were genuine. At Epcot there was little to nothing done and the very friendly Cm said you have 2 extra magic evening hours (we missed 2 FP+ reservations). Even at MK there was nothing done except reinstate our Splash pass which we could no longer use (wasted the entire early entry). The extra guest had to eventually use a card and couldn’t use her MB.

I was told I had too many trips and MBs (had only 5-6 trips) and eventually they moved my profile to a temporary email and deleted all the bands and then my Disney visa credit card info no longer appears on safari, but most of the time it does on the app.

A senior CM with an iPad at ROTR told me my phone was old hence I didn’t get the notification that the VQ procedure changed, so they make up things that you wouldn’t believe when they can’t figure out why stuff is happening. Don’t give them a reason.

I think there is something strange going on with MBs and cards. I know I removed all of my 1.0 MBs in the past with IT because I wasn't using them anymore, but I had 45 MBs and cards in 2020 and recently looked online and was down to 11. I called IT because LE MBs I actually purchased and my most recent annual pass card disappeared. IT was able to retrieve them after escalating to another IT team, but it claimed they were marked as "sent back and destroyed" when I was clearly holding them in my hand. My MDE had to be rebuilt in 2017 from too much data, but all of these MBs and cards were purchased and added after that. It honestly makes me hesitant to ever pay for a MB because Disney may just decide to purge it without me knowing. My family members can wear the freshest battery for long range photos since their accounts always seem to work

You can use the 2014 ones if you'd like.

Nothing was ever loaded or stored on the bands themselves. All of your reservations, FastPasses (then), Lightning Lanes (now), etc. are stored on your My Disney Experience profile, not the band. All the band does is tell the kiosk "@Frozen2014 is here" and then the kiosk checks your MDX to see what entitlements you have.

You could use your phone, ten different MagicBands, and a plastic card interchangeably throughout a single day or five years apart. As long as they are linked to your profile, they'll function the same.

The one exception to this is long-range features such as automatic ride photo linking (without needing to tap your band to a touch point). This would require a "fresh" band no more than 2-3 years old because it needs a live battery. Touchpoints will work with a dead battery or, in the case of a plastic card, no battery at all.
We have bands from our August 2018 trip that I'm hoping to use this August. Unfortunately they don't fit in the 2-3 year window, but not terribly old. We haven't decided whether are getting PhotoPass, so I guess that will determine whether we should consider new ones. Do you know of any way to test the batteries before actually being onsite?

I don't think there's any way to test them ahead of time. If you have bands with designs you like, you could buy the cheapest plain color fresh bands and swap out the new pucks into the old band.
