Hi! It's been a few years since our last trip...before magic bands and FP+! We are looking to buy APs this year and will go in October. If I buy my APs in April, do they mail magic bands yo you? We are staying off property. Not sure how the magic band situation is handled with APs... Thank you!

Nope. The only people that get MBs shipped to them are those with on-site reservations.

Unfortunately, they don't mail the AP Magic Bands until after you activate your AP by entering a park. :( We had renewed our AP's back in November but didn't get the option to customize them until after we had activated them in January. It seems rather backward to me.

If they don't mail them how Dow we get them to use in October when we go? Do we buy them or pick some up when we get there?

You can buy now, and get a voucher...I just did that. BUT.....don't have them send it to your home. Just chooses the will call option. Then, you will be able to link it to your MDE account and be able to make FP+ choices when your window opens. I made the mistake of having the actual voucher sent to me...had to call Disney IT to get it linked. Much easier to do with a will call certificate!!!

No, unfortunately you won't get your free magic bands to use for your October trip (unless they change the way things are currently working between now and October, of course).

As people have said, if you're staying off property you won't get your AP magic bands until after your first visit. However, you could just purchase bands once you get there, there are many choices available in the parks outside of the plain colors you can get for free. I understand it's an added expense if you have a large family, but what's $25 a person if you want Bands for this trip?

We were AP's before they had magic bands. So when magic bands became available it popped up in MDE that we could customize ours and they'd be shipped off right after customizing. From what I've read though is that you don't get them shipped to you until after you first activate your pass in the park.

When you go to renew your AP though, you get to customize a new band and have it shipped, along with your AP slider and discount card. Mine should be here tomorrow or Tuesday :)

Wow! I have a lot to learn about APs and staying off property this time! Thank you e eryone for your help!

Is there a difference between an AP magic band and a non-AP magic band? DH and I got magic bands in the mail even though we hadn't activated our AP vouchers until we arrived at Disney this past October. I bought a Haunted Mansion magic band and he bought an Elsa magic band so we'll be using those anyways, but I was just curious.

No, there's no difference in the bands. I'm assuming you got bands mailed to you prior to your trip because you were staying on site. The OP is staying off-site, so the situation is different.

They also mail them to those with an activated AP. We stay offsite once per year and I've always gotten our AP bands in the mail.

Just to keep things clear, a "standard color" MagicBand purchased at WDW costs $12.95 (plus tax.) Other special MBs can be of various prices. Any purchased MB can be used for APs or regular tickets at WDW.

We linked our AP voucher to MDE and then I went ahead and ordered our bands from the Disney Store. I think I had a coupon so it knocked off a bit plus free shipping. I've linked them together on MDE.

For those who get an AP voucher and have trouble linking it, here is what I was able to do: When linking the AP exchange certificate, don't use the ticket # on the certificates or the order # on the letter. You have to use the full order number that came on your email confirmation (the one with letters before the #s). Hopefully that will save others from having to try and figure it out :)

The bands itself aren't different. However the box AP's receive is a different box than on site guests, it has a AP slider to go on the band, and your discount card

Oh! I believe I saw something like that for DVC members during my trip. Thank you so much for the info! :)

The slider this year is green, last year it was blue, I got a magic band for my hotel stay during marathon weekend where I also renewed my annual pass.So I got a magicband for staying in a resort that trip which came before the trip but the AP magic band I almost forgot I was getting another one for renewing my pass,I did eventually realize it and I checked my MDE website and saw the link to customize my band.

We stayed on site in January and linked UT tickets to our MDE account and received our customized Magic bands in the mail. On our second park day, we upgraded to annual pass. Should I now be able to customize a new set of Magic bands?

You got your customized MBs in the mail before that January stay, right? So those are the ones that went with your onsite reservation.

Now you have an activated MB, and you should check in your MB section of MDE. You should have the ability to customize the AP MBs now.
