Magic Bands - Didn't like them

Bottom line ... the Magic Band is pretty much like a very slim plastic band watch. If you can figure out how to wear a watch, you can figure out how to wear this thing.

Maybe those not accustomed to wearing a watch will need to wear the band for a few days ahead of their trip to get used to the feel of thing and figure out the most comfortable level of tight/loose for you. I assume this is one reason Disney ships them to you 30 days ahead of your trip.

Bon chance

We used ours for nine days and liked the convience of not needing KTTW card. There were a few minor glitches but not enough to bother mentioning.

I had no problems using mine, but I do agree the shape doesn't accommodate the wrist all that well.

I agree with that. I found that if you wear it say on your right wrist with the mickey head facing out (away from your body) it seemed to fit better and worked well with the MB readers.

We'll be visiting in Sept and I'm really looking forward to the MB experience. I don't wear a watch so the experince will interesting.............. I personally didn't have a problem with the card situation, although it could get cumbersome going back and forth into my wallet......but that was me.

The MB is something new and and I think interesting and the implementation of things to come in our world. Change can be hard but it is inevitable.......I think many of the comments in the original post here could be helpful to Disney Management and I also doubt many haven't already been brought up. I would imagine sometime in 2015 you'll have MB 2.0 with modfications around comfort (at least), which I imagine has/will be the #1 issue for many.

Agreed. Disney really values the feedback and takes every recommendation into consideration. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney does come out with a modified band. People like comfort.

Thanks to some of your for your posts. To others, I never understand some replies to threads on this board. Why do you find it necessary to post that if you don't have a problem with something, then others are just nitpicking, or are posting incorrect info, or are just being negative, or are saying they won't return to Disney? I find it amazing & wonder if such people are this way to their families & others in real life.

Anyway - I posted MY feelings & thoughts about the Magic Bands, as have some others. My intention was to simply give my thoughts & info to other Disers who may or may not be interested in it. I do not have to agree with anyone else in order to be speaking honestly & factually. I can have different experiences from others & still be speaking honesting & factually. Plus, no one has to agree with me. But it would be nice if everyone would be honest in their respones & open their minds to thoughts & experiences contrary to their own.

DH & I will return to Disney. Of course something as simple as a Magic Band would not keep us away - ridiculous thought.

We are not nitpicking. I simply reported how WE felt about the MB. We do not like them. One issue would not keep us from liking them. However, the multitude of issues WE experienced result in us not liking them - that is OK! If we didn't like the KTTW, the issues we had probably would not have bothered us as much. But, to us, the KTTW is much easier to use & we prefer it.

We are not looking for something to be negative about. This is a board for sharing experiences at Disney. I shared ours. It happened to be negative about the Magic Bands. We do not like them.

I have emailed all of my comments to Disney. I also received an email survey, & I included our thoughts on there. I explained our dislikes & ended with I hope the KTTW is an option (not a replacement) to the MB.

I don't know if a KTTW card can be requested. I was under the impression that these are gone - no longer used - I may be wrong. But when we return in Dec. I will definitely ask.

We did not receive our MBs in the mail. We received them at checkin.

We really liked the KTTW card. We had a pocket just the right size for the cards. Never lost them & never had a problem retrieving them.

I tried to cross my arm at the park gate to enter my finger print. I had a bag on my left arm which blocked my left arm, I had my right arm MB on the pad & was clumsily trying to get my bag out of the way (the pads are not right next to each other & not everyone has long arms!). The CM told me to just do them one at a time. Plus the first time I entered the park, I used my right finger, so don't know if the left one would have worked anyway?

As I posted originally, I'm glad some of you enjoyed the MBs. For you, I hope the MBs stay. For me, I hope the KTTW is an option.

When you go them at checkin did you get the box? If so and if you still have it, look inside the box to see if you have a paper or two in there telling you about the MBs. In all our MB boxes (since oct we have had five resort reservations so we've gotten five sets) there's a paper telling us about the cad possibility. Would be interesting to see if that info is still given, though many miss it because they don't go digging in the box.

I asked if we are supposed to bring back our current MB at our next checkin. Was advised that we could if wanted, but a new one will be waiting, because the maximum life of the MB battery may only be 2 years or less. I asked what happens to unexpired park tickets on non-accessible MBs.

Nothing happens to them. The bands dont' store anything. All they do is read your MDX profile. As long as your pass is linked to your profile, ANY magic band or card assigned to you should be able to read it. Same with resort reservations. For example, I can now use my annual pass to open my resort door. It's technically just another card. The battery is not what is used when you scan a band to enter the park however. The battery is for the "longer distance" scanners, like the ones that will eventually let Snow White know your name before you meet her.

Did you ask for a KTTW card? Because the WDW website still says that you do indeed have that option.

But what a pain! The bands are meant to wear on the wrist...if disney is going to make this new system, at the very least make them comfortable to wear.

Well the thing is many of us do consider them extremely comfortable to wear. In fact I missed mine when it was time to go home. I was concerned when I first heard about them, as I wear no watch or other jewelry.

I was very pleased with how comfortable they were.

I don't have any problem wearing them, but I wear a plastic watch all the time.

Think about the way you titled your post. Very negative and with a "thumbs down" icon. I won't say anything about your last sentence above.

Ditto!:)

And if you ask at check-in, they will still give you a KTTW card, but you have to specifically ask for it.

I asked for a card when I checked into POFQ in January, and was told they were no longer available. I didn't really push the issue, so it could have just been a misinformed CM... but that was my experience.

Yeah ... if that happens just try another cast member. For this year, I've been told they will issue a card to people who specifically request one.
