Magic Bands and DDP

We have a split stay coming up in November. The first night is at BLT and the rest are at VGF. I have checked in online for both reservations, have magic bands and all tickets are linked in MDE. The BLT stay does not include the dining plan but the VGF stay does. We would like to use the dining plan for lunch the day we switch to VGF. Must we be checked into VGF to use it, or are the entitlements loaded on our magic bands the day we are scheduled to check in so we will have access to the entitlements before arriving at the resort?

I posted this question on the DVC board as well and the response I just received was that we will have to check into our resort first to be able to use the dining plan.
