Magic Bands 101

Sorry, I'm sure this has been answered a bazillion times but ....

On our MDE account we have 2 sets of MBs:

#1 - 3 active MBs under "Select a MagicBand or Card to Manage Its Status" from our trip last year. I assume the tickets that are currently linked to these MBs are our tickets from last year - Keys to the World & MNSSHP tickets. We still have these MBs.

#2 - 4 MBs under "Your Order" that can be customized until 9/18/14 for this year's trip. (We have 4 this year because we are bringing DD's BF with us).

What is the best way to manage my MBs? Inactivate the 3 from last year and customize the 4 for this year? Does Disney send new MBs every trip even though we already have active MBs?

TIA!
Debbie

All MBs linked to your MDE are interchangeable so you don't need to deactivate the old ones. Just choose new colors and enjoy both sets.

As long as they're all active, you can color-coordinate with your clothes :)

If I go in to my magic + and link a DVC points reservation, then add on park tickets, I'll get a single magicband in the mail, right?

How long do my park tickets last? If I buy 5 days, do they automatically start ticking on the first day of my resort reservation, or could I choose to go to a park a day early if I end up seeing friends the day before my reservation? What if I want to spend a day away from the parks - can I skip a consecutive day or do I have to go one day after another?

We are staying offsite for 3 nights, then staying at Animal Kingdom for 4 nights.
Husband and I are AP holders because we go 4x/ year. I understand he and I will be able to book fast passes with our existing Magic bands-no problem, but kids will have Magic your Way tickets and worried about the kids not having Magic Bands until we start the on-site portion of vacation.

I am trying to think of a way of avoiding the purchase of Magic Bands for 3 days off site, when the kids will have them for free when we arrive onsite at AKL after three nights off site.

They do mail them to you after you customize them online through MDE. You will get them up to 30 days before, I believe so the kids should be fine.

I'm wondering about the how does it know which ticket to use too. We have a one day hopper and a one day one part ticket on our account. How will it 'use' the tickets?

There is some way to prioritize tickets - I am not sure how it is done, but I have heard it is possible. If you do not receive an answer here on the boards, Disney IT would be able to help you.

I have a reservation that shows up on MDE. I have linked an older card ticket to it. My friend on the same reservation, and listed as my friend on MDE, was able to customize a magic band, but I don't see the link to do it. Anybody know why, or if I'm missing something? Would it be because I have a card ticket on there? I will be buying more tickets, not even sure if I will use the one I have. Just seems weird that she can do it but I can't.

As above, I would check with Disney IT. You should have had one show up for yourself - unless she is set up to manage your magic band?

You can log into My Disney Experience and once you enter your reservation, you should be eligible for a Magic Band. Customize it, and it usually ships within 30 days of your trip.

In order to book FP you need to link tickets. The clock does not start ticking on the tickets until you actually use the ticket to enter the park. You also do not have to use them consecutively, but unless you purchased No Expiration, I think there might be a time limit, something like 14 days after first use. You can go to the park anytime, but for FP+ reservations, if you go the day before your reservation starts, you can only book the FP+ for those days 30 days before. For the days in the park with your resort reservation, you can book those 60 days in advance.

Is it smart to have your hard card tickets with you, too, in case your Magic Bands don't work? Since your tickets are linked in MDX would your hard card tickets have your FP+ on them?? Or would you have to go get the MB fixed at guest services before you could use your FPs?

I had my card tickets available should the MBs have failed these last couple of days. Turned out I didn't need them, but it only takes one glitch to mess with ya.

Perfect! Thanks! I'd rather be safe than sorry. Are your FPs on there too, or not? They're linked in MDX, but I wasn't sure if everything was on the card that's on the MB. Thanks!!

They both act as keys to the same information. Neither store any info other than a unique number to access Disney's secure servers.

As I write that, it occurs to me that if something was messed up with the MB it would most likely have also been messed up with the actual tickets. Even though it may not have really mattered, it felt "better" to have the "actual tickets" on me also.

Very good point! Hopefully we'll have smooth sailing and not have to worry about it :)

Ok so I have a question. I have magic bands from three previous stays, and I have a split stay and then ANOTHER stay coming up. I'm also staying again in September. I have an AP, but for September I have a package to take advantage of free dining.

How do I make sure that my magic band will use the AP as a priority over the ticket with my package? I want to save my package ticket for a future visit... How can I ensure this happens?

We have a split stay coming up in July. I had already done our AKL MBs, Now I just realized we have two sets coming in. What happens to our CBR MB's when we switch resorts? Do they stop working?

I think you have to go to Guest Relations and they can prioritize your tickets that are linked to MDE.

I'm in the same boat. I called and was told to either call the Internet Help Desk (407-939-7765) before I leave home and someone could designate specific days as single parks or hopper days, or go to Guest Services when I get to WDW. Evidently this is becoming a common occurrence, as the CM I spoke to told me she had just gotten an email on this very topic ;)

When should I receive my Magic Bands? I'm 24 days from my stay at AKL and the notice on MDE about the Magic bands still says they will ship soon. Have Magic Bands arrived before the status changes on MDE? I'm getting nervous even though I read all these posts of people getting multiple orders of Magic Bands.

They used to ship overnight now they arrive regular USPS. That said, they should have shipped already.

I rented DVC points from a DVC member and have two reservations linked to MDE for the 10 people in my family. One reservation is for a two bedroom villa at BLT and the other is for a studio at BLT. Initially, the DVC reserved the 2 br for my DH, my kids and my in-laws and then the studio is reserved for my BIL and his two kids. But, we really wanted my BIL and his kids with us in the 2 br and my in-laws in the studio. Can my in-laws use their magic bands to access the studio reservation since the reservation is linked on MDE even though their name is not on the reservation? Or can we request additional KTTW cards at check-in to allow them to access the studio and vice versa for my BIL? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
