Hello, planning a trip for August, and our kids are finally old enough that we want to give them a little responsibility regarding spending. i have been trying to find information as to if you can set spending limits on individual magic bands. Problem is there is conflicting information out there, some of it directly from Disney. This post from plandisny states you can do it:
https://plandisney.disney.go.com/qu...lso able to,Have a wonderful vacation, Marcie!

While this post from only 9 months earlier states the opposite:

https://plandisney.disney.go.com/qu...=You can't set an,in Walt Disney World Resort.

Compounding that, there are numerous forum topics stating yes and no. Does anyone have any concrete info as to if this is possible?

Second question, when you examine all charges at end of stay can you see which magic bands made which purchases? Would really make it easier for tracking spending amounts at the end.

Thanks everyone!

Magic Bands allow spending at Disney when you link one of your existing credit cards to the Magic Band. Magic Band is not a credit card. Any of the public forums you see are various people expressing their opinion about one thing or another. Also need to look at the date specific comments were posted. since what might have been true 2 yrs ago may not be current practice.

1 - a magic band is linked to a credit card. You can link each magic band to a separate credit card. Perhaps, if you want to link your kids' magic bands to one, link it to either a prepaid credit card with a low limit ($100) or one of your lower limit credit cards (if you have one that is $500 or under). The limit is whatever the limit for that particular resort is. At one time, Disney was doing holds of $100 for each charge, not sure if they are still doing that though.

2 - each magic band can have a different PIN associated with it.

3 - I have no idea if they delineate the charges between magic bands (and PINs). I don't link a credit card to a MB.

Thank you, I understand how magic bands work though :) Thats not my question, and I am not looking for opinions. I was simply wondering if anyone here had any concrete info after trying to do this thing. I underserstand the dates on those posts are from a while ago which is exactly part of the reason I am reaching out now.

Yes, Magic bands are linked to a credit card. your idea is an interesting thought, however I can confirm from previous trips where we shared a room with another couple you can only have one card attached to magic bands as a charging card. And the limit is 1000. You can have different PIN's for each band as you have pointed out.

I was simply hoping someone out there has tried to do what I'm suggesting. Based on those help articles from disney's planning sites people obviously have, i was just hoping one of those people that have tried might be a member here and be able to shed some light as to why there is both yes and no info on their site.

We never do charging to the room account, so I don't have first-hand experience. While I've read occasional reports that folks were able to add limits to kids' charging, it doesn't appear to be the norm -- whether that means only some CMs know how to do it, or people thought the kids had limits but really didn't, who knows. You might try asking on the Resorts Forum.

In the past I have been able to set my kids for a limit. They asked what kids limit was when I allowed charging privileges. Guess they still allow it. I didn’t set a limit since kids bands seem to always work but parents didn’t

Thanks for this response! Did you do this right at check in?

I can not speak to the spending limit question but I can tell you that as of the last time I was there, October 2019, they do not separate charges by which band was used.

I would get one of those low limit visa gift cards for this limited use and call it a day. I used to refuse to link my credit cards to the old room keys for this reason, if they force it it will be as low as possible even if it means getting a separate card with a lower limit strictly to prevent the problem. I'm fine taking out my card or cash when I want.

When we visited in Sept. 2020, the email detailing the charges listed the date, time and location of the charge as well as the amount and the band that was used. It made it easy to see which charges were made by me, my husband and our son.
