We are not going to disney until August. This morning i got to thinking about our Magic Bands. My DH has a lot of skin allergies, and more often then not has reactions to different things that touch his skin. IE. A watch.
With the MB sitting on his wrist for a little over a week i am concerned that he may break out in a severe rash around his wrist. The heat of August i am sure will not help as he will sweat under the band.
Has anyone had issues with this? I know that he could not wear the band and carry it in a different way, i would just be concerned that he would have a better chance of losing it dropping it etc if he had to do that. Does disney have an alternative to the MB for cases like this? Do they have extenders to make them longer so that they are looser on the wrist? I am sure that we will figure something out, just wanted to see what others thoughts were. Thanks!!
Oh yeah is it August yet??
No one has to *wear* a MB.
The T&C and emails and pages on the disney site about MB show that you can still get an RFID card. Even when I linked a newly made reservation to my
MDE account it stated right there that I could get an RFID card.
When you receive the MBs he could practice with it on. See if he reacts.
Remember that many of us react to the heat, the sweat, and I firmly believe for me, the water on the attractions (b/c I break out where the water splashes me). Might not be the MBs at all. That's why it might be nice to wear it around at home, without the WDW factors, just to know.
I bought one of the cloth covers for mine, not because of any allergic reaction but just to make it more comfortable in hot weather. The cloth cover covers the band completely for me.
The coverbands sold by WDW are a "swimsuit" material that wicks sweat away and dries quickly. It's smooth and feels nice, allows the MB to slide around the wrist, rather than get stuck on you with sweat.
Thanks for all of the ideas. I knew I could count on the dis to help me figure it out. I didn't realize you could still get cards that's good to know! I also may be able to make a cover before we leave once I get my bands! I wanted to personalize them anyways so that will be how I do his.
Yep.
Here's a tutorial for making your own cover...oh, hey, wait, it's also info on what, exactly the MB is made from!
Here.
My daughter did break out into a rash from the magic band. It lasted a week after she stopped putting it on. She either attached her MB to her belt loop or her water lanyard. I saw a CM who had it attached to a retractable badge holder that had a carabiner . He said it was issued to him. We've been on the lookout for something similar.
The card may just be easier!
You can get those sorts of badge holders on ebay. I bought DH a Seahawks one a few years ago, and some plain ones. You can also get them at most office supply stores. Probably
amazon, too. Just be aware that MBs, if not "locked" with a coverband or even a slider in a crucial spot, CAN and DO tend to fall off. If it's on your wrist, you notice a lot quicker than if it's dangling on your hip.
And those badge holders break, too.
a friend with an allergy to latex had a reaction to the magic bands.
Yikes I didn't even think of the latex issue I assumed these days that it would be free of latex ok so he can't wear it at all because he is totally allergic to latex! Good to know! You guys are the best!
It's not made of latex. WDW is pretty good about the allergy issue, and isn't going to use something that's so blatantly allergenic. See the passporter blog post I linked to.
