On my last trip I upgraded to one of the Epcot magic bands and had an issue with it not receiving the signal to upload pictures from rides onto my Disney experience acount. I'm thinking of for my next trip I'm either going to get a grey magic band and swap out the RFID tag in it or I might just carry a second one somewhere it can be read by the scanners what are your thoughts in this?

On your next trip if staying on property just order a new band that is free and deactivate the old one that does not work.

It worked for everything else just not receiving pictures from on ride photos atomaticly. Plus since I'm from Canada I was planning on using it at the start of my trip for magical Express as they don't ship them to Canada.

Getting a new grey band and swapping out the puck from that one into your Epcot band is workable idea. Take the Epcot band with you and use it to scan into DME - it will work for that purpose just fine. It will also work fine for any function that requires touching the band to a Mickey head (room, park entry, FP, etc). Since you're coming from Canada, you'll be picking up your new grey band at the front desk. Ask them for help swapping out the pucks. They should have the appropriate type of screw driver to do that.

It's odd that the battery in the Epcot band was DOA, but it would seem that that is the case. The battery is only used for the long range functions like automatically getting your ride photos on those few rides that don't have a place to scan your band.

Yes I did find it odd as did the photo pass CM I was speaking with as it was supposed to have been a brand new band. I wonder if it's possible that some of the bands that they gave out for the upgrades could have been sitting around for awhile and the batteries in them had died?

That's always possible. Just as likely that there was a manufacturing defect where either the battery was defective to begin with or something went wrong in the assembly process and the battery was not installed correctly.

The nice thing about the pucks being replaceable now, is exactly this situation: you have a band you want to keep and use for multiple trips, but the battery eventually dies - now you can just replace the puck and still use your special band.
