Magic Band Question for families staying offsite?

We are staying offsite and will be heading to WDW in February. Do we have to wait until we get to the parks to purches our bands? I just saw them at The Disney Store online and wanted to know if I could go ahead and get them now.

I'm also a bit confused on how to add the fast pass on the bands as well.

There is a serial number printed on the inside of the band. That number is entered into your MDE account and the band can be assigned to a specific person. Once it's linked to that person any FP+s you already had scheduled are automatically linked to the band.

They don't actually "put" any information on the band, it's just connected to your account.

If you purchase the band on site (we bought one for DD at DTD), they will do that for you. But I watched her do it on an iPad and it seemed very simple. I am sure you could do it at home, but if you are unsure maybe if you have free time on arrival day you could go to DTD and have the CMs help you to be sure they are set up properly (instead of wasting time on a park day)

We bought them at MK the first day of our visit and it took no time at all to get DH and my bands attached to my account. What I love, is that they even include a picture of the band attached to which person. So there's a red band next to DH name and a pink band next to my name (DS didn't need one since he was 2). I can see that would make things a lot easier to keep track of for a large family.

DH was a bit leery of getting the bands, but after that first day said he wouldn't have wanted to do Disney without them. They are SO convenient. Make sure you attach your Memory Maker to it as well if you're doing that. Makes things so easy.

yes you can buy them at the Disney store website.
you use the info on the band to link it to your MDE.
for FP+ you'll need to link tickets to your MDE and you can then book your FP's 30 days out.

Thanks for all the help. I think we are going to wait until we get to WDW before we buy the bands. We will have time the Saturday we get there to go to DTD.
