I just booked a last minute cruise on the magic as a surprise for my family as we ended a week in Orlando anyway.

Too late for the FE - but I was planning on decorating the door. BUT, someone mentioned to me she thought she heard new paint on the Magic's doors makes this impossible.

Before I spend 1/2 the day making magnets for no good reason - can someone confirm this is accurate or not?

I've been doing research for our cruise on the Wonder. From what I understand the paint is really thick on the the Wonder & Dream & you need good strong magnets. Someone did mention a certain section of the Dream on one of the graphics groups on FB. Maybe someone else can add to this..?

We've used regular magnet paper on all 4 ships, never had a problem. Sailed on the Magic after her most recent dry dock and did not have any problems with our magnets.

The only exception is the Concierge level doors on the Dream and Fantasy. They have a wood veneer on the door that prevents some magnets from sticking. It requires a little bit stronger magnet to make it work on those doors.

We were on the Wonder last year and our magnets were too wimpy to stick. We used magnet paper to print on and they would stick to the inside of the door , but the outside had too many paint layers.

Some of the doors on the classic ships been damaged by passengers' decorations and have had to be repainted multiple times; which is why DCL doesn't allow tape, and has threatened to fine anyone who uses it on their doors. But I digress.

Some of the stateroom doors have fared better than others, so they don't have as many layers of paint and the magnets stick better.

If you're worried about the strength of the magnets, just print your design on cardstock and laminate it and then you can attached stronger magnets to the back. I did that last year on our Dream cruise and my magnets had no trouble sticking to the door. As a point of comparison, the magnets on the memo board DU gave us in our gift basket weren't strong enough for the door so I don't think regular magnet paper would have worked on the door.

Just got off the Magic yesterday, and our magnets that worked fine on the Fantasy last year, would not stay on our door on the Magic! Too much paint... But, we were given magnets from our FE group that had a tiny powerful magnet button on the back...it stuck on without any trouble! I had used regular magnet printer paper, and now I am going to be "fixing" my old magnets for our next cruise by adding button magnets to the back...

I was wondering if you had any issues useing the button magnets? Someone said something about scratching the door.

My worry is that the button magnets have different strengths so now I'm not exactly sure how strong they need to be!

I have used these on the Magic and Wonder they worked great bought at Michael's for like $6.0071il3jxkCxL._SL1500_.jpg

I got off the Magic two weeks ago. I used the regular roll of stick on magnet tape and had no problems so long as the magnet tape had time to flatten out so the whole thing touched the door. The magnets @belac mentioned work great too but they can be super strong (depending on which brand you buy I guess) so make sure they are well secured to whatever magnets you make because otherwise they won't come off the door easily.

Just got off the Magic last week. My magnets that were printed on magnet paper stayed on the door, though after awhile the edges started to curl. They never came off. I did take a roll of magnet tape but never used it. I had been warned about the many layers of paint.

How does one know the strength of a magnet when buying? I bought a roll of ProMag magnet tape at Michael's and it seems very weak. We're thinking of buying another brand from Lowe's or Home Depot to take on cruise, just in case. I didn't see anything on package identifying strength, so is it just hit or miss?

They are available on ebay for a cheap price just search stateroom door magnet
