I agree...but different parts of Mexico differ greatly. Mazatlan is OK...but to me, not as nice as other parts.

A comment on Mazatlan: when I sailed on DCL three years ago to Mexcio we also took an open air taxi through the poorer part of the city. My kids were smaller and a bit freaked out, as others have posted. This trip (just returned on Sunday, July 20) I booked a tour with Mazatlan Frank and could not be happier. We saw the old part of town in a comfortable air conditioned van as well as the newer resort area. I thought the older part of the city was clean and very interesting and the people were so friendly. I highly recommend this mode of transport as well as the tour that was provided. We even ended up looking at a small boutique hotel in downtown owned by an american couple. The rates were very good, around $100 per night. We asked our driver where he would stay if he were vacationing in Mazatlan, so he took us there. There were only 6 rooms. So quaint!
