My kids don't need any more toys so I thought I'd give them subscriptions for X-mas.
Does anyone have any sugestions? I was thinking disney adventures, american girl mag for my oldest(she's 11). Does anyone subscribe to these? What do you think of them?
My other kids are 7 & 5. Any sugestions for these?
My kids get way too many toys from grandparents so I thought this would be one idea to cut down on toys plus they will get it all year so it's not a one day gift.

Thanks,

Nintendo Power magazine is a huge hit with our 8 yr olds:)

HTH!

:sunny:

My DD10 loves AG mag but Disney Adventures seems a bit immature for her.

If any of your kids are interested in sports my sporty 10 year old niece loves Sports Illustrated Kids.

When my DS21 was a kid he loved Nickelodeon mag. and Nintendo's magazine. I haven't looked at either of these in years but you might check them out as possibilities.

mag for my oldest(she's 11).

I love (& so does DD12) New Moon magazine. It doesn't have any ads and is more about girl empowerment and not about the typical external beauty found in a lot of other magazines. From their site "New Moon portrays girls and women as powerful, active, and in charge of their own lives-not as passive beings who are acted upon by others. New Moon celebrates girls and their accomplishments. New Moon supports girls' efforts to hold onto their voices, strengths, and dreams as they move from being girls to becoming women." Their site is newmoon.org.

For younger kids, boy or girl, my kids have enjoyed Ranger Rick.

National Wildlife Federation magazines are awesome! They have different ones for different age ranges.
Wild Animal Baby - 12mos.-4years
Your Big Back Yard - 3-7 years
Ranger Rick - Ages 7 and up (DS9's favorite!)

Fun and Educational at the same time.
I can't post websites but go to nwf.org/magsforkids
or 18006111599

Hope this helps!

Highlights has always been a favorite with my kids. Also Ranger Rick.

If you are Christians you might consider one of the Focus on the Family magazines. They have Clubhouse Jr. for the really young kids (4-6), Clubhouse for the older kids (8-12) and then they brand off to gender specific mags.... Brio is the preteen/teen girl's one.... not sure about the boys.

Also, my kids always loved Highlights..... especially the hidden pictures! Good luck!..............P

ETA: Sorry, didn't realize that I was signed in under DD's profile....this is PJLLA!.............P

My kids always get magazine subscriptions from my parents, and they LOVE LOVE LOVE that gift. My girls enjoy many of the same magazines that've been mentioned here.

Another thing I like to give my girls is art supplies. They always need more paint and brushes, drawing paper, new crayons and markers . . . just plain supplies.

However, make sure they have SOMETHING to open on Christmas morning -- especially if the relatives who are likely to bring toys aren't there yet. It'd be a bummer to receive JUST magazines from your parents!

Magazines are a great idea.. I have a few relatives I give subscriptions to yearly.

You can also get great deals on sites like:

http://www.bestdealmagazines.com/

and I know there are a few other good ones with deals. There are usually codes out and you can go though ebates or mypoints for more back

For example I just ordered a years worth of womans day and family circle. My total was $10.00 and I get another 10% back from ebates.

There are some Canadian magazines called Chirp (for the youngest kids), Chickadee and Owl. They are nature and science oriented, and always interesting and fun. I highly recommend them!

Grandma and Grandpa get my kids (9 and 12) subscriptions to "Your Big Backyard" and "Ranger Rick" every year for Christmas. My kids LOVE them. When they come, they go through them cover to cover. They save all back issues and drag them out and look at them frequently.

HTH.

I just ordered the Backyard & Clubhouse ones for my kids for Christmas. They LOVE getting mail & figure this would be something they can look forward to each month plus add to their love of reading. My oldest DD was fundraising so this helps her as well.

My DD12 does like American Girl magazine. Everytime she's in Michael's with me, she asks for the latest copy. She has no interest in Disney Adventures though. Neither does my DS8.

Family Fun magazine is great, it's for the "crafty" kid...my DD8 has been getting it for 2 years. The first year, I read it more, but now she loves to read it and find ideas for us to do

DD9 has asked for Nickelodeon magazine and MAD Kids. She's also getting Disney Adventures for 3 years because of the great deal here on the DIS boards a while back - 30 issues for $7.30! Sadly she has outgrown Ranger Rick (she just got her last issue the other day and asked not to renew it).

You can also get great deals on ebay. My friend told me that there is like a 3 different magazine deal for like $8.00 for 3 years. I know nick jr and disney adventures were two of them.
