All rumors aside... what's up with her british accent?

Hasn't she been living there for quite a while?? Maybe she has picked one up from living over there.

I'm not watching... but it drives me crazy when people pick up accents that easily. I don't get it. :confused3

She lives there and has for several years. I think it's pretty natural to pick up the local accent when you've spent that long there. :confused3

She's just trying to keep up with the Zeta Jones's by butchering a foreign accent in the vain attempt of appearing more sophisticated.

Dude.

I've lived in Georgia for 19 years and I STILL don't have a Southern accent...

Accents are a choice, she chose to sound like that. My sister was born in Brooklyn and took up her husband's Tennessee twang like she was born there.

And thought she just spoke clearly and concise.
I have heard a trace of a British accent before..but not on Oprah yesterday.

Well, I don't know. My friend is a Yankee born and bred, and she once went down to northern FL to visit her grandparents. She called me after being down there for about 3 days and she sounded like she was an extra from Gone With the Wind. I just about laughed my self to death, poor thing was totally embarased! She is just one of those people who picks up accents easily, it wasn't intentional. I figured Madona is the same. And she didn't sound totally British, it sounded like the British and American accents were waring with each other as she talked. If she was being pretentious, she would have sounded much more British.

She can go on tv and talk however she wants, at least she has spared us all by not making any more movies!

I've heard Madonna sound alot more British. Anyway, I'm from Iowa and recently spoke to a friend of mine, also originally from Iowa and she is in Texas now. I don't think she could have said y'all more times than she did or sound more like she is from Texas! :rotfl: She's been there 8 years and she's pushing 40, y'all. :teeth:

Could be! I have lived in New England all my life, except for the two years I spent in California. I've been living in Texas for two years now and catch myself saying "y'all" all the time now...

I thought she sounded very american.
What is American supposed to sound like? :confused3 I hear that all the time... I have a Miami/Spanish accent, but I think I speak English perfectly. I have friends in other parts the country that beg to differ  . I personally do not think there is a specific "American" language. Just MHO.

Accents are a CHOICE??? Nonsense. Well...let me clarify. I am sure there are people out there faking an accent for whatever reason (like the character Jude on Nip/Tuck from season2). However, plenty of people pick up an accent if they spend enough time surrounded by it. I work VERY hard not to pick up the southern twang here in NC. I was born and raised (26 years!) on Long Island by parents with THICK Brooklyn accents. Nobody can tell where I am from because I have NO accent.

Sometimes if I'm not paying attention and I'm having a conversation with a real twangy local, I start twanging too.

Madonna probably has picked up a bit of an accent from living in London for so long. Remember, Mel Gibson LOST his thick Australian accent because of living in the US.

Actually, Mel Gibson was 12 when he moved to Australia, and was teased for his AMERICAN accent.

You could say though what does british sound like?
But when i commented i wasn't talking about english, i was commenting on accents, to me she has an American accent, and she doesnt sound British. I'm fully aware americans have accents, British have accents too, i have a black country accent as i'm from the birmingham area but then i still hear the british accent in it, same as i recognise anyone elses accent, if i hear someone speak i can normally tell where their accent is from.

Did you watch Mad Max? Watch any early career interviews? Mel totally had an accent.
