Bernie Madoff got 150 yrs. Is that an appropriate punishment? Will this deter this type of crime? Please share your thoughts/opinions

I sometimes think the criteria for sentencing is seriously skewed. Granted he committed a serious crime but is it really worse than murder, rape, child molestation, animal cruelty etc? Some of those crimes only get sentences of 4 to 10 years for crying out loud. It baffles me.

IMO, very appropriate. He destroyed the lives of so many individuals. Retirees who thought they were OK financially are now working at WalMart because they've discovered they have NOTHING. Bernie Madoff knowingly stole their money and spent it on himself and his wife. These poor people bought him a yacht, several homes, expensive jewelry and cars, and a penthouse in Manhattan. I'm glad he'll never see freedom again.

I agree that those crimes do not receive the sentencing they deserve. They should receive much more. I do believe BM got what he deserved.

No one gets Something for Nothing. There is a lot that the media did not pounce on or spotlight, like people that put 50K in a "program" with him and then thought that in less than 10 years they had 500K, I mean..... it is alot of GREED that many people were SUCKED into by his clever marketing.......MANY were taken in by him and his team of "helpers" WHAT happened to those people..... accountants, business associates???

I am not blaming the public or ANY person that was wronged by him.

I am commenting on the human condition of...... I want it and I want it now and He offered the "pie in the sky" and they got bulldozed into thinking he was "the man" that could get them huge $$$, fast.....

That being said, YES, I am glad he was given the sentence. I would like to see ALL his assets sold off (wifes included, who did not work and did not contribute to the wealth pile) and put in a fund for those that were wiped out, giving them back what THEY put in originally so the $$ can be spread...instead they'll probably get nothing and that is another story for our future generations to learn from, SAD!
I happen to also think that some other crimes are just as serious and more serious and deserve harsher sentences, but thats our system....He is being made an example, and I am fine with that, a disgusting piece of humanity!

I think he deserves it. This was a well thought out, long time running scam that eventually ruined a lot of people's lives. And somehow, rich people that commit a crime and supposedly lose everything, still seem to live the high life. Didn't OJ supposedly lose almost everything during the civil trial, yet you see him jet setting all over the country playing golf. I'm glad this guy will spend the rest of his life in jail, he doesn't deserve the chance to live a better life than they people he ruined.
