I was looking at the pictures from inside...and I am rethinking... We ahve 2 small children and 1 who is not fond of dark situations....

We are only doing half of a day at MGM and we wanted to do dinner there and stay for Fantasmic so we were looking for a TS at MGM since we are on the DDP.... Any thoughts would be appreciated!

if you think your child may not like the dark/noise of the films then i agree mama melrose may be a better option:) we loved sci-fi and thought the food was lovely...ive not tried MM tho so can't comment on that

We've done both... We took our daughter who was almost 4 and she was fine in Sci-fi - they do only snipets of movies and lots of short cartoons; however, we thought the food there was mediocre. Love the food at Melrose, but a hike to the Fantasmic show so you don't want to cut it too close. Our favorite is Primetime 50's cafe but not sure if they offer the Fantasmic package.

ScI Fi was so dark I couldnt dee the menu w out a flashlight :scared1: (I wasnt pleased or impressed at all) PT 50s is one place that I have been that my whole family loved the food and atmosphere as well. Cant wait to return!:woohoo: Neither of these do a fantasmic package, but if you do dinner early enough, you could just line up with the rest of the flock:laughing: Mama Mels and H&V do the packages. H&V is non-character at dinner:cutie:

Another vote for Prime Time :thumbsup2

I'm sorry to say I have to give a thumbs-down food-wise to Sci-Fi. For years I had read poor reviews, but I finally decided to try it out for myself last week. There were three of us and I wouldn't say any of us are particularly fussy eaters, so I thought maybe the poor reviews were from fussiers eaters. Well...as much fun as the atmosphere is, and the service was really great, I really couldn't believe how almost "tasteless" the food was. It wasn't disgusting; it just really had no taste whatsoever. I had the chicken sandwich and the artichoke dip (which I usually love). The milkshakes, however, were fantastic. Maybe you can just go for dessert?

For consistent food quality (and good atmosphere), my vote is for Prime Time :goodvibes

I'm going to go against the grain with this one. We LOVED Sci Fi! It's the one place we will return for our next trip. The kids options here are excellent. For appetizer they can get fruit and yogurt dip or veggies and cheese. All our food was really fresh and good. As far as being dark, it's fine. There are lights inside your car and to tell the truth, it was the ONE meal all six of the kids sat still through. (<--they were busy watching TV)
We had onion rings, burgers, ribbs, and all were really good. I say go for it, you will get all different opinions around here, just try it for yourself and see.

We ate at MM and Sci-fi last dec and my vote goes to MM. Sci-fi is dark inside and i didn't like the idea of not being able to see what i was eating. The food at MM was very nice and we got a front row seat at Fantasmic.

I think sci-fi would be fine.It is not overwhelmingly dark.It is after all suppose to make you feel like you are actually at a drive-in theater!!!!!!hence the "darkness"!!!!

Sci-Fi is OK, not great by any means....it was dark, old movie clips....it is OK for a lunch thats it....My vote is for Prime Time 50's. Kids love it, awesome shakes.....typical kids meals. Very fun for parents too!!

Sci Fi was pretty dark, though not horrible. I didn't like it for littles because the way we were sitting in the cars I couldn't help them with their meals.

What about Hollywood and Vine? They don't have characters for Dinner, but they might have a lot of choices for your kids.

DisneyMom5 or anyone...can you please describe to me how you are sitting in the cars so that you couldnt help your little ones with their food. We are thinking Sci Fi for our next visit, but my youngest will need a little help with his food...thanks

The "tables" are actually cars; if you can imagine a car without the roof. There is enough room for two adults in the front seat (counter in front of you to eat), and then room for two more people in the "back seat" of the car, again with a counter in front of them (behind the people in the front seat of the car. No one is facing each other; everyone is facing the front of the room, where the "drive-in movie" is showing. It's actually very cool, but (1) there is not much conversation going on among your party, because no one is facing each other and (2) I would imagine if you had kids who needed help, you would have to stand up and go help them. The back of the front seat of the car (I think) would be too high to reach over and help with the food behind you (and awkward). :goodvibes
