someone stole the flowers that we put on my parents grave......

I cant believe that someone would do this.......even though I read about it in the newspaper ...these flowers were put on the other night so that they would be there for Memorial Day....and someone swiped them...
My brother went to the cemetery to also place flowers for our parents, and he noted that all the flower arrangements were gone.....so do we go and get more and hope that no one steals these or leave the graves bare......

If they were all gone, I would guess the cementary did away with them. My guess they were mowing and tossed them all.

But it doesn't make sense that the cemetary would get rid of the flowers, especially right before Memorial Day Weekend?

The one that my grandparents are buried in. Are very strict about when you can and can't have flowers.

Does your cemetary have a rule about when real vs. fake flowers can be placed on the graves? Maybe you put your real ones down on the day the fake ones were to be removed and the cemetary accidently removed them.

I saw something like this on the news recently.....Can't remember where it was. A family left out REALLY NICE flowers for Mother's Day 3 years in a row and someone always took them. The 3rd year, they had a GPS device put on the flowers. :lmao: The police "watched" the thief drive the flowers home whereupon he gifted them to some female. He admitted doing it the year before, but I'm not sure about all three years. What scum. :rolleyes1

If they were all gone, the cemetary likely took them. At Calverton Nat'l cemetary where both sets of my grnadparents are buried, there are rules about it.

I called the city and the city crew does not remove them.......she commented that someone probably stole ours......my parents are closer to the beginning of the cemetery......
Just upset me....My inlaws that we placed flowers on are very strick on the flowers...so we only put real ones on theirs....but during the spring we can put artificial ones until the first monday of June.....

That is so sad that people would stoop that low to do something like that. Not long ago here there was someone stealing the brass vases on the headstones that you put the flowers in, cutting them up and trying to scrap them! Reminds me I need to go visit the cemetary & check my dad and grandma's gravesite to see that the vases are still there.

Yes very sad. My mom put my grandama's little Flag holder with one of her flags on it & the next time we went out there it was gone.

Happens at my grandparents "memorial park" as well. They don't allow certain things and we can only put out certain types of arrangements. It's not unusual to see piles of fresh and plastic flowers by their dumpster. I will just go and bring a few fresh flowers that my grandparents loves and place them right on the stones....when they dry up they blow away and the grounds crew leaves them alone. I think it's sad that they feel the need to either a) remove them or b) that someone stole them. ((HUGS))

:grouphug: sorry.
Are you sure they were stolen OR is this a military/gov't cemetary as they do not allow us to place ANY flowers there. There are specific rules that govern it, dates and type of arrangements, etc. I understand your hurt and I feel terrible that you are so hurting...And if the flowers were all stolen, it is just disgraceful. :sad2: But, in my mind,....I think that your loved one knows you placed them there for them ;)

It's a terrible theft (although I guess there's no good theft). I've heard of it happening before, especially with expensive arrangements.

And around my neck of the woods we say "madder'n a wet settin' hen".

I live next door to a cemetary and they remove the flowers. They do it all the time, and then they dump em all down this big hill that you can see from my upstairs window. They prob had to clear everything in order to mow the lawn for the holiday weekend, it has to be cut in prep for all the visitors and to hang all the flags. Check with the city to see where & what the rules are about flowers, they are usually posted.

I'm very sorry this happened to you! I've had similar things happen in the past and it never feels good but hopefully this will bring you some solace:

You placed the flowers there to honor your parents and remember them, and regardless of if they lasted a month or a day you accomplished that. There are definitely some morally deficient people out there and hopefully one day their conscience will catch up with their actions. Until then all you can do is hold your parents memory close to your heart and realize that the simple act of remembering them would mean more to them then the flowers themselves as they watch over you.

And thanks, I know you posted this to vent, but it made me think of some people in my life that aren't around anymore and especially on this weekend it's put a few things in perspective for me.

Some jerk stole the rosebush one of my cousins planted on my grandmother's grave in 1967. There's a 'special place' (real toasty warm) in hades for people like that.

been there done that...we put flowers out several times a year on my husbands parents graves..people steal the flowers, the flags, and even the planter that was built into the grave was pried out..people have no respect for anything anymore..hope noone steals the next ones you put out..make sure you notify the cemetary..though if it's anything like ours, they won't do a thing!

That's such an awful crime. I'm really sorry it happened to you!

Maybe it would be a nice idea to donate the money to a charity in your parent's name instead of buying flowers (that someone is going to steal) with it?

here in milwaukee they are having a problem with people stealing bronze vases that the cemetaries put on each Mausoleum grave, it is a huge problem multiple cemetaries have been hit up by the thieves and hundreds of vases stolen, they cost a little less than 300$ to replace so the thieves are just reselling the scrap metal. It is disgusting that people do this, but not unheard of.

I'm sorry that happened to you. I remember how upset I was when I visited my grandmother's grave and found the solar powered flower I had put was smashed into a million pieces. I swear I could feel my blood boil!
