Hi
I am thinking about having a day after the wedding (vr) farewell brunch in the form of a Mad Hatter Brunch. Any ideas or experiences as in where would be the best place to have it and how to decorate or what to serve?

All ideas greatly appreciated! Pics welcome

I searched this and found an old link to a thread about a mad hatter tea party but the link won't work! Can anyone guide me in the right direction for the original mad hatter party thread?

im not sure where the thread is... but I do know that Heatherlynn444 had a mad hatter party--maybe try searching for her threads.. if not im sure they can give you the information all over again! GL:thumbsup2

PrettyinTink,

I am having a Mad Hatter Welcome Brunch the day before our vow renewal this summer. We are having it in one of the rooms at the Grand Floridian. The main room they use is the Whitehall Room and patio at the GF but we are doing our reception there so that was out. The room is gorgeous and I love the patio with the monorail zipping by. The best video I found of the Whitehall Room is on the disneymeetings.com website under the virtual site inspection. They also list some brunch ideas and prices but as you know, Disney can come up with anything you like!

Another nice room is the St James Room over at the Boardwalk Inn. This is where we originally were going to hold our party until we got bumped by a convention who took the room for the entire week! It is a little more intimate (the patio) than the Whitehall Room but very pretty for the indoor/outdoor thing.

We also looked at the Attic at the Boardwalk. It is a very pretty, private room with a porch overlooking the Boardwalk area. The only thing here is, they don't let you move the furniture anymore or use props. So, for us, although it was a lovely area, it wasnt' going to work for us. My main reason for the Mad Hatter was the wild color linens, napkins, florals, props, cake.

I also have some amazing ariel photos of the party being held on the lawn on the back side of the Boardwalk Inn. It is back by the private Garden Suites (which by the way are amazing!) This is where I would've held this tea party if I weren't doing it in July!!! Ken gave me some 8x10's of this. I will see if I can scan them and post them later.

So, we went with a plain room so we could use a few props to "theme" it up. As far as the props go, they are expensive. If you have under $2000 in props there is a $500 set up fee. There is a white picket fence you can use that is $110/section, the giant caterpillar is $480, the mushrooms are $110/each, the clock is $110, the teapots (big or small) are $600 each and the flowers are $270 each. You can see how quickly it can add up. I have seen them without props and they are lovely. I still haven't received my BEO so we'll see where I need to cut back. We are definitely having Alice and the Mad Hatter and a 2 tier Mad Hatter cake and the crazy colored linens and napkins. Also, Shelley at Impressions has a very cute invitation that I think we're going to use. Disney Floral is going to do flower arrangements in upside down Mad Hatter hats and in teacups. We are also thinking of doing a gazebo with some brightly colored floral balls hanging down w/colored ribbons. Janet2k for her vow renewal dinner at the Great Movie Ride has some great pix of the dessert portion in the land of Oz with some great florals and cute Mickey cakes in bright colors. You might want to check out her photos. Heck, everyone should check out her photos, you can get ideas for just about everything there!

I do have some pix of the locations, let me see if I can post them. For me, I found the disneymeetings website very helpful for the room dimensions and 360 tours.

When will your party be? Hopefully, we can help you along the way!

Lisa

Sorry they're a little fuzzy but I just had the printed 8/10's which I needed to scan. I have seen video of the props and they are much cuter close up. The cat was very glittery and the flowers had little faces in them.

Thanks! We are planning for 2010, and while I know prices will change I am really excited about the idea of a mad hatter party. It sounds so girly and fun! Thank you for the link and the info. And please feel free to post pics. I checked out Janet2k's pics. Wow is she imaginative! She has the best events! The props sound a little spendy but I guess its not so bad with the meal being a brunch. Do the cost of the props go toward your minimums?

I had a Mad Hatter Tea- You still have to meet the food and Bev min at your venue. I did a brunch as well- here are some of my pics - we I brought my flowers from home- we were at the WhiteHall Patio and Had the Mad Hatter and Rabbitt no Alice - hence my name (haha)- no props - because that was what made it so pricey! and they do not count toward food and bev min!!!

Allison-- I didnt even know you had a mad hatter brunch. You never finished your TR and I was really hoping that you would-- I enjoyed reading it! I absolutely love your brunch and everything was so beautiful. You are such a pretty girl!! I fell in love with every part of your wedding (especially the pink bridesmaid dresses). You are so pretty!! Thanks for sharing!
by the way-- i love your top with the floral print. Where did you get that?

Thanks Maggie- the report is actually finished somewhere on the board- This was my bridesmaids luncheon - and I invited the only the ladies and girls who were attending the wedding-Thanks for the compliments. And the top is from Neiman Marcus - when I got my gown and got the charge I got bonus card - for 150 bucks so I bought the top with that -it was free!!!- it was from last summer I think it is Lilly Pullitzer- I had planned to wear it to my shower, but that day it was a monsoon and I had saved the outfit ALL summer so I thought HECK I will wear it to the tea party!

Wow! Great pics. The props are super cool and if this was our reception I wouldn't mind spending the money but just for the brunch its a bit much. Maybe if I hit the powerball. Did you have to set up your own flowers or did they do it for you? Beautiful!

Allison,

Thank you so much for sharing the pix! As you know, I have been wanting to see them. Everything looked wonderful and you look great in the pictures. I just talked with floral/Laura this morning so we hope to use lots of the ideas that I'm finding here.

Thanks!
Lisa

Actually I drove them down and dropped them at the Disney Event Group when we arrived on Saturday - my event was Wed they set them up - BUT they were also never returned to me. I was to pick them up the following weekend at Disney Event group and they lost my flowers or someone stole them. I have been reimbursed - but it was after a lot of hassle and crap and it almost ruined my honeymoon!!! All I can say is that everything went off without a hitch - it was the after part that was messed up, which I guess they could have lost them before my wedding

WOW allisonswonderland... Your pics are great.... Loved it...

Allison,

Thanks so much for more pix. I can't get enough! It is so nice to see the tables and the food set up. I love those mini plushes. they had them on the tables a couple years ago when my son (yes, son) did the wonderland tea party at the Grand Floridian. The table set up was so cute and now I know I need to go back through my pix to make sure I haven't forgotten any details.

So glad you got to wear that gorgeous dress again! Your at home cake was gorgeous too. I'll have to remember that when my little princess has a Cinderella birthday. This year is Ariel but I'm always looking ahead! Besides, I'll need something to plan after this vow renewal!

Oh, did you use Disney photography? We are with them for now (Randy Chapman is doing srualumn's weddding the same day) but haven't heard that many good things about them. Your pix were great so we'd love to know who you used.

Thanks!
Lisa

Randy Chapman did my wedding pictures - my Mad Hatter pics were taken by my cousin Sean though- Randy also did our engagements, but I have seen some good pics from Disney. Also after speaking with Disney about my video I know that they are willing to work with brides a little more than many think - so if you need to ask your EM how to get in contact with the photography people.

Thanks so much for sharing your pictures!

I love the idea of a Mad Hatter Tea Party. He's such a great and interactive character! Definitely a fun way to get everyone pumped for the excitement ahead! I think I am going to look into making that part of my budget. Isnt the cake so cute? I love the little frog!

btw your hair is sooo cute!

Yes and this Mad Hatter did a fantastic job!!! You really should have someone video it! Again it is doable if you nix the props!
