I think you're a day late Rob.
Fine! That will teach me to spend an evening with my DW instead of DISing! That's ok -- everyone knows the REAL hot place to be this past Saturday was here in KC seeing Reba and KC in concert at the Sprint Center.
I am blatantly double-posting (or maybe even triple-posting) the following so that all my fake internet friends can see my concert report:
For a belated Valentine's Day celebration, DW and I went to see Reba and Kelly Clarkson in concert this past Saturday night.
(Don't click on the pic for the referenced video - the link is not active from here.)
First, the superficial: Though Reba is twice as old as Kelly, she looked twice as good. Reba was totally hotT (as usual). Kelly, not so much, and it really showed when she was on stage with Reba. Reba had the better rear end, the thinner thighs, the more toned arms, and the flatter stomach. Even DW said that Kelly looked "thicker" than she thought she would. Kelly does appear to have better skin but then she is in her 20s while Reba is in her 50s. I was also pleasantly surprised to see Reba's hair somewhat long again (just past her shoulders and hopefully on its way to going even longer).
Now, the real report...
If you all missed this show if and when it came to your town, too bad because K.C. was the last stop on the 2 Worlds 2 Voices tour and WOW! what a show! Generally speaking, I am not a Kelly Clarkson fan but I can see why Reba picked her to do a duet and, in turn, to do a full concert with her. Their voices really complemented each other's.
I honestly think this was one of the best concerts I have ever been to -- easily in the top five (out of 50 or so).
The pair opened with Sweet Dreams (are Made of This) by the Eurythmics, singing most of the first verse with the curtain still lowered. It rose showing both ladies on stage which, of course, drew thunderous applause.
(Apologies in advance for the quality of these pics -- the crowd was not allowed to bring in cameras with detachable lenses which left me with my small snapshot one. For clarity, I've also incorporated four pics from The Kansas City Star's website.)
You can see that the stage was of fairly simple design -- three levels for the band to sit on, connected by two flights of stairs. Reba and Kelly spent most of their time on the lowest level, the main stage.
Lighting was well done but fairly basic. Here's a slightly blurry pic, from later in the concert, showing the general lighting layout:
The second song of the night, "Why Haven't I Heard from You", was sung by both of them and it was the first time of the night my jaw dropped open. During this number, Kelly showed that she has a truly amazing diva-caliber voice. They continued singing as a pair on "Walk Away".
This was about the time I expected one of them to disappear and the other one to sing for awhile, then switch places, and then come back together for some encore duets at the end of the concert. I was wrong. Reba went into "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" as the main vocalist while Kelly sang backup.
Then Kelly took over with "Behind These Hazel Eyes" while Reba sang backup. Now, how cool would that be -- to have a major star, that you grew up admiring, that still is a bigger headliner than you are, singing backup for you?
They then sang together as equals on "The Fear of Being Alone", "Beautiful Disaster", and "Sleeping with the Telephone" (from Reba's
Duets album with Kelly singing the part that was sung by Faith Hill on that album).
This was followed by "Miss Independent", "The Greatest Man I Never Knew", "Cathy's Clown" (probably my least favorite song of the evening), and Patty Griffin's "Up to the Mountain". "Up to the Mountain" was another song where Kelly really shined with a soulful performance.
Next up was "How Blue", "One Promise Too Late", "Be Still", "Love Revival", "Never Again" (sung by Kelly with Reba as backup), "And Still" (sung by Reba with Kelly as backup), and "Breakaway" -- most of these songs were sung by both of them (about 80% of the total songs of the evening were sung "equally" by both and they took turns sung as backup for each other on the other 20%).
One song I always look forward to hearing Reba sing is "Does He Love You" though generally this has been sung as a duet with Linda Davis. As much as I enjoyed Kelly's singing during this concert, I missed Linda Davis being there on this song. Linda's voice, being almost a perfect match of Reba's, is probably just what I'm used to.
"Is There Life Out There" was next followed by "I'm a Survivor" (the theme song to the Reba TV show). For "I'm a Survivor", Melissa Peterman (Barbra Jean on the TV show) joined Kelly and Reba. (Melissa was also the opening act, doing about 15 minutes of stand up comedy prior to the start of the concert.) Here's a link to a YouTube video (filmed at the Louisville, KY concert last month) showing this bit (obviously the sound was much better in person -- at least it was in KC):
I'm a Survivor with Reba and Kelly Clarkson and Melissa Peterman
The regular portion of the concert then closed with "A Moment Like This". The two ladies then bowed and left the stage to a standing ovation. About 5 minutes later, they reappeared wearing different tops and did a 3-song encore consisting of "Since You Been Gone", "Because of You", and "Fancy".
Excellent, excellent show!
(If anybody wishes to see good quality videos -- good sound as well -- of many of the songs from this concert tour, I would suggest going here:
