Macy's

I haven't shopped at Macy's in years. It's been such a trying experience with what everyone has listed above.

I was just at nordstroms today. Bought a silk cami, sweater, a maxi dress and some toms. All, except the shoes, are wrapped in tissues and everything was walked from behind the counter to me in front.

I honestly love the service there.

Guess I should know this but it isn't coming to me.

Wow...really "off" day for me. Even messing up the quote.

I gave up on Macy's years ago. The stores are a mess(we have two within a mile of each other),dirty, and no salespeople and I refuse to search for an open cashier. The final straw was when they had two cashiers for the whole first floor of the store...Nordstrom for me!

Haven't bought anything from Macy's in a long time. I go in every so often, but never find anything I like. I end up buying from AnnTaylor or Talbots.

Macy's moved in here a few years ago when it bought out Foley's department stores and some other stores elsewhere. I had always thought Macy's was a "fancy" store, but I have found that they are much less nice than Foley's was. Foley's was just step below Dillard's in how nice it was, but Macy's is just barely a notch above JC Penney. I almost never go in there.

Macy's quality and offerings seems to be very different depending on location. Also, quite a few stores mentioned in this thread I have never heard of for comparison.

Around here especially in NYC, Macy's is a great store with terrific incentives and sales.

That is not my opinon of Macy's in NYC I think they are horrible, I stopped shopping there but still pass by in the Mall and the sales they hold are gimicks in my opinion. IF you want a great sale, shop during Norstrom's Anniversary Sale that is the best
My mother was a Macy's loyalist I prefer Nordstrom or Bloomingdales, about the only thing I buy in Macy's is cosmetics, when they have the gift with purchase on brands i use.

As for the person who wants to know why you care because you wash clothes before you wear them, that is the most absurd thing I have heard, the only thing i wash before wearing is underwear. I don't know a single person who washes brand new clothes before wearing them.

I shop at the Macy's store in Summit Mall, Akron, OH. The clerks there do a great job and do not just shove them in a bag.

Corporate offices have really cut back on the number of clerks in the store. On one trip, one clerk was expected to handle the register and, in-between, return clothes in the fitting rooms, to the racks. When I went into the fitting rooms I couldn't believe the amount of clothes that were in every stall!:crazy2: She was doing a remarkable job but clearly needed some help.

I do shop Nordstroms, and Bloomingdales, as well as Macys. I get the bi-monthly loyalty cards and the sales are wonderful for me. No issues with Macy's but my primary store is Smithhaven.

FYI I work at Banana Republic not only do we fold items in your bag but we still wrap it in tissue. Sometimes, depending on the item, we will leave it hanging in a bag for you. Time to switch stores:thumbsup2

Not the OP, but that's lovely...except you don't carry my size! If Gap and Old Navy can carry sizes up to 20, why can't BR?

Hey fellow NJ person! Glad to see I'm not the only person having those experiences! Is this Paramus Park and GSP, Woodbridge and Menlo, or somewhere else? ;)

It is starting to make sense about washing your cloths before wearing them you don't know who tired on the pants or how many times they have been tried on.

OP here. I emailed the store manager and posted on Macy's facebook page. I know not folding clothes is not huge in the grand scheme of life, but it is one more nail on the coffin of declining customer service everywhere. I for one will not put up with it and will make my thoughts known! I should also mention that on the Macy;s sale racks, very few items were hanging on the labeled size rounder per the stated size, and most items in the entire store were on the wrong-sized hangars. I had to look deep into each jean and skirt to find the size since I couldn't trust the hangar. My husband says I have enough clothes!

I am a long time Macy's shopper, decades of loyalty. Today I asked the clerk why she just shoved my five pieces in the bag instead of folding them like they used to do years ago (this shoving in the bag has been happening out here for 2 years or so). THese were career pieces. I was very nice and told her that Kohl's clerks shove clothes unfolded in their bags, and I was surprised that Macy's was following suit. The other cashier turned around and said gleefully that Macy's management no longer requires their clerks to fold clothes before bagging. I was stunned! Any Macy's clerks out there? Is this true? I guess Nordstrom's is the last hold out of quality retail customer service. I guess I shouldn't be surprised since customer service seems to be on the decline in many areas. SIGH.

They are suppose to put the clothes neatly in the bag. The individual store manager may have mentioned something once and the sales associates took it and ran with it. They are also suppose to walk around the register and personally hand the bag to you if there are no others in line behind you.

Macy's customer service is crap. They no longer have sales associated, they have cashiers. I get better service at Walmart.

They have sales associates. The problem is that because of the economy that cannot have as many in the store as they use to, so in busier days they get stuck ringing up and can't provide the one on one experience.

I stopped shopping at Macy's years ago when I found out that I couldn't get my child's wheelchair between the racks.:headache: I was not willing to park him out in the main aisle while I dived into the racks to look for clothes. Now a child's wheelchair is about half the width of an adult's wheelchair, so what that said to me is "We have no interest in serving people in wheelchairs; Disabled people not our kind of customer." :snooty:

I am happy to take my money elsewhere.

Did you complain? They are suppose to have 36 inches between each rack. You really need to complain to a manager so they know someone is not doing their job right.

Often during slower times of the day, sales associates are covering multiple areas. They are expected to greet every customer, assist those who need it, ring up merchandise, check fitting rooms, return misplaced items, size merchandise, straighten tables/shelves, and also dust the fixtures. They need more people.

I was at Boscov's yesterday looking for clothes made in the USA (lotsa luck with that). I asked the cashier and she couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. She walked me around her section & showed me the one made in USA brand, then she walked over to another section of women's clothes and asked someone there, then walked over to another section looking for more. She was so pleasant and nice and she was young, probably early 20's. Asked me if I wanted the hangers, folded the clothes, told me I could come back in 10 days if the one item went on sale. Such a pleasant experience. I went to customer service to let them know.

And I always wash my newly bought clothes before I wear them, trying them on isn't too bad but wearing them all day not knowing who and how many people tried them on, no.

I don't know a single person who doesn't wash their clothes before wearing them. But I'm guessing you have never worked retail, and don't realize the chemicals that are used in the making of your clothes. Some of them stink to high heaven of chemicals when we unpack them. Not only do I want to wash some of that off, but you have no idea how clean the people were who may have tried those clothes on. We have to damage clothing out all of the time from people who either had a pile of makeup on, or were dirty when they decided to try clothes on.:crazy2:

Absurd? Seriously?

I have always washed new clothes before wearing them, no matter if I bought them at Macy's, Penneys, Khol's, Christopher Banks, etc. or Wal-Mart. Who knows how many other people have tried them on before I did. And I prefer clean clothes, that smell clean, and don't have that chemically factory smell to them.

As to folding clothes vs. not folding before putting them in the bag after purchasing, I've never even thought about it. I don't really care if they do or don't, since I wash them before wearing them.

I've posted this before but it has been a while: If you don't like how a store that is part of a large chain does things (Macy's, Kohl's, Target) you need to complain to their headquarters, NOT THE INDIVIDUAL STORE! Headquarters are the ones who set protocol, the ones who dole out the wages for the stores. Each store can only have as much staffing as they are given money for (and can only staff at the times they are told they can staff) and can only follow the rules they are given.

Know why so many stores badger you for credit, or for you phone number, or for your e-mail? They are told they HAVE to, and are told to push push push for those things. They have goals for each of those things that they have to meet, and if they don't, oh boy! If anything bothers you, you need to write to the home office. The individual stores have no control over it. None!!!

Do you know that they treat clothes with formaldehyde? Among other things to keep them from molding or having pest bothering them in their long trip to the US. Since almost nothing is made here.

It's the reason they tell you to wash baby clothes before wear. They don't tell you they have all those toxic chemicals on them, but they do know they aren't good for you. I've heard of kids having reactions from clothes if their parents don't wash them first. It's not the clothes, it's the chemicals.

I wash everything before I wear it.
