I am a long time Macy's shopper, decades of loyalty. Today I asked the clerk why she just shoved my five pieces in the bag instead of folding them like they used to do years ago (this shoving in the bag has been happening out here for 2 years or so). THese were career pieces. I was very nice and told her that Kohl's clerks shove clothes unfolded in their bags, and I was surprised that Macy's was following suit. The other cashier turned around and said gleefully that Macy's management no longer requires their clerks to fold clothes before bagging. I was stunned! Any Macy's clerks out there? Is this true? I guess Nordstrom's is the last hold out of quality retail customer service. I guess I shouldn't be surprised since customer service seems to be on the decline in many areas. SIGH.

I guess we have to bring our own garment bags now.:scratchin

That's crap! I also shop Macy's and if/when that starts happening they lose a customer. I would bring it to someones attention.

Macy's customer service is crap. They no longer have sales associated, they have cashiers. I get better service at Walmart.

I was at Macy's yesterday. I bought 6 dresses on clearance. The clerk asked if I wanted them left on the hangers. She put a bag over them.

I have noticed this at a lot of stores. Not Nordstroms. I used to work retail back in the stone age and there was no way we would have gotten away with shoving clothes in a bag. I cringe when people do it.

I wonder if it is (no offense here or anything) the younger workers that do it? A different generation? I don't know. I'm just spitballing here. I mean really, how long does it take to fold a shirt?

I wonder if this is a store by store kind of thing. I shop at Kohl's a lot and the clerks always loosely fold the clothes I'm buying before bagging them. :confused3

I buy lots of clothes at CJ Banks and have noticed that they no longer wrap the clothes in tissue before bagging them, but they do still fold them!

Don't you just pull your stuff out of the bag and wash it anyway? I can see getting mad if a suit or something is crammed into a bag, but regular tops or jeans? I wash everything before I wear it, so I don't care if something is folded neatly or not. Nothing stays neat in those plastic bags anyways.

Btw, I'm in my 40s, so I'm not a young'un by any means.

Same.

I have to admit I'm totally biased against Macy's. My mom always hated it so I never shopped there as a kid, and as and adult I don't see what the big deal is.

I'm wondering about the generation gap thing too. When I bought stuff at JC Penney last year (a bathrobe and some kind of top), the cashier, who had to be at least in her 70s, took such great care folding everything. I thought it was sweet, but I also kind of wanted to say, "just throw them in the bag already!" because I was getting impatient. But she was just too adorable to be rude to!

These were career pieces that could easily wrinkle and wouldn't be home for hours. It is the more the point that you are paying higher process and receiving diminished service.

Not always. I guess I just see it as having pride in having good service. Not sure how to explain it. I guess when I see them shove something in the bag its like they are saying here take your crap and go. Now maybe that isn't what they mean to imply, but thats how I take it

I agree. I don't care if it's a restaurant, a theme park, or a store, do not take services that were previously provided away. People notice.

I stopped shopping at Macy's years ago when I found out that I couldn't get my child's wheelchair between the racks.:headache: I was not willing to park him out in the main aisle while I dived into the racks to look for clothes. Now a child's wheelchair is about half the width of an adult's wheelchair, so what that said to me is "We have no interest in serving people in wheelchairs; Disabled people not our kind of customer." :snooty:

I am happy to take my money elsewhere.

I shop in the Women's department at my Macy's and they have amazing customer service. Take your clothes and start a dressing room for you, will get you other sizes, try to find a way to use your coupons best. I do most of my shopping there and only buy clearance ( so they're not just being nice because I spend a lot of money!)

Please no one take this the wrong way. But they should have racks that are separated to fit wheel chairs. I would call and speak to the corporate offices. Believe me they do not want any problems with the ADA. Not saying you would call. But it may give them something to think about. Not just Macy's that is anywhere.

I was a cashier at Target for some years a while back, I always folded clothes that my customers were buying, took it off the hanger, folded it, bagged it. The majority of places we shop still do that, I would probably complain if it stopped, it's a common courtesy IMO.

FYI I work at Banana Republic not only do we fold items in your bag but we still wrap it in tissue. Sometimes, depending on the item, we will leave it hanging in a bag for you. Time to switch stores:thumbsup2
