Anyone want to guess what this is?

I thought it was a snake skin. Nice picture of the Manatee. How close do they let you near the Manatee?

Thanks! I would guess about six feet above the "pond" they are in - many times they just float on the surface so they are much easier to photograph than a swimming dolphin!

The are such unique looking animals! It is a shame they are so endangered, and unfortunately humans are one of their "enemies"!

This was actually taken in WDW- not many gardenias growing around here! ;)

The wind was blowing, so a few of these got blurred. Not sure if I like the effect or not.

i thought there was a thread like this but if so i can't seem to find it

having purchased some extension tube/c lose up set...

what tips would you give for using them best... i seem to have a problem getting the entire object in sharp focus in a close up( maybe getting to close?)..wondering if i should be doing something different or if it's due to not having the stuff i bought yet so any tips on such would be appreciated. i don't have a "real" macro lens to use.

You always have great shots. What kind of equipment do you have?
Thank you, I have a Canom 20d, for this shot I used Canon's 300mm f/4 lens with the Canon EF1.4 II Extender.

I have the same lens combination and absolutely love it! The 420mm plus close focusing distance makes it perfect for dragonflies.

Please excuse my lack of knowledge in this area...

Okay - you have this

and this

so the lens on the top goes on the body of the camera and the extender goes on the lens?

Just making notes so when I do upgrade to dSLR I know what I might be needing.

Thanks

Great shot :thumbsup2 , yes I love this combo, I also have the canon 100mm 2.8 macro lens, but it's harder to get close enough to fill the frame for dragonflies.

The extennder goes on the camera body, then the lens attaches to the extender. You can only use the extender on certain lenes though.
BTW great shots you took at seaworld, especialy the first one.

Thanks - okay - now I got it, and I had it totall backward! I missed the "L" in the first lens when I searched! Yikes - so much to learn (and $$$$ to save!)

Thanks for the compliments! My DGN videod "Believe" for me, so I hope to watch it and anticipate some of the "big" moves a bit better. I miss the "big" screen when you could watch them dive deep, as you always knew they were up to something big and you could see where they were in the pool!

Excellent shots, too, rtphokie. How about you? What kind of equipment do you have?
