macro lenses

i was kind of leaning toward white Christmas tree lights wrapped around the filter and a really long extension cord but i may rethink ;)

you don't lose AF or aperture with a reversed lens. you mount a lens to the body, then you screw a lens 'backwards' onto the end of your lens. AF still works and aperture is still set as normal.

you can try this at home for no cost. just hold a lens backwards next to the lens you have mounted. you can use clingwrap and gaffer's tape to hold it without your hands.
the wider the reversed lens, the higher the magnification.

personally, i think the nicest true macro lens is the MP-E 65mm. it's easier to focus than using extension tubes, even though it's manual focus. it also has a tripod collar. it just needs a good light source.

Taken with my new camera I just got a couple of weeks ago (if it looks blurry at all its because I had to reduce the size to get it on the Dis!)

The reversing ring I have (very old) mounts to the camera body and the lens screws to the other side of the ring. Since there is no longer a connection between the lens and the camera, all autofocus and autoaperture functions are lost.

I like your reversing ring better, sounds like it's time for me to upgrade!

yeah they work quite well. you can also solder/jbweld two stepup rings together if you're desperate ;)

btw - they are listed on B&H as 'macro couplers'

I am not sure if this is considered macro, but it is my only non disney one :)

Glad to see this thread, I don't have any Disney macro, but have lots from home.

I need to work on closeup/macro stuff. Haven't really played around with it much at all. But I'm beginning to like it more, especially after seeing this thread. Great work all!

Here's one I took a few months back. Mostly tried for light as it was later in the day as the sun was starting to go down.

Man, you guys are amazing. Great shots!

For those who have done 'bug' shots, what kind of equipment do you have?? The close up detail is phenominal!

Taken in one of the small gardens in front of some Castle in central Florida. Not so much an extreme close-up, but pretty close nonetheless.

Some butterfly shots. Since they aren't supposed to be Disney related, just pretend they weren't taken in Minnie's Butterfly garden. :rolleyes1
