MAC users....compare Mac's to PC's!

The surfing/office work comment was exactly what I need. I don't play computer games so no need for anything fancy in that area. Kids type papers and do school projects with clip art. I use if for my digital camera, word processing for PTA stuff....general stay at home mom kinds of things. My current laptop is probably pretty old by computer standards....maybe 4 years or so. How long are computers supposed to last before they are on their last legs? This one is very slow and lately has been only erratically working.

Just to give you some perspective- my Mac G3 is 8 years old- still going strong with only added RAM and a bigger had drive over the years. I'm almost wishing it would break down so we could get a new Mac- they are truly beautiful.

For more perspective, I still use my 10 year old IBM laptop every single day.

I have the 20 inch intel iMac and I love it. It was very easy to connect to our wireless network. It was also very simple to get all of our family pictures and some of our video into the system and start using iWeb, iMovie, and iPhoto.

The one problem I am having is getting it to recognize that I have intalled shockwave (I am trying to get to vmk). Other than that it has been a dream.

We have an older (10 year) dell desktop and a 3 year old dell laptop work computer. I work on Dells at work.

I am returning to the apple world. After I tried my husband's iPod I began to wish we had an apple. (I owned a apple IIe in 82 and got a color classic in the early to mid 90s).

We have 3 Macs at home (1 desktop, 1 powerbook, and one iBook) and we love them all. DS5 was using the iBook but then DH decided to get him a PC since most of his games are on the PC. DS5 hates the PC because it dies all the time and asks, "Can I have my other computer back?"

I *think* I have decided on the Intel iMac with the 17 inch screen, adding an extra 512 for 1 g of RAM.

Before going to look at the models I was pretty set on a lap top and have waffled back and forth on lap top vs. desk top. But, I liked the iMac and like that it already has the chip it seems they are converting everything to.

But, I think my current laptop must know I am looking at newer models because suddenly it is working again just fine!
