Luxury

You're paying for location and the Disney name. If we hadn't purchased DVC we'd be staying at Wyndham Bonnet Creek (which we also own at). Some WDW resorts have better theming than others, but they don't necessarily scream luxury to me. Although I'm not sure what luxury would actually look like. :confused3

In what way? This picture of DVC Deluxe Studio at PV (just for an example) doesn't appear very luxurious by any definition.

More than enough luxury for me. Maybe you expect someone feeding you grapes and fanning you? Not sure. No one has the same definition 🤷🏻. Show me what I’m missing then, I’d like to see what it looks like….

Plus, if you travel, your luxury level can go way up. Try Vegas. The casinos subsidise the hotels, which are NICE! Several hotels are suites ONLY!

Definitely a nice room. Bed looks about the same -maybe the chairs are a little nicer.. and yeah it has a glass coffee table 🤷🏻. Keep trying….

Did I mention the hotel has two helipads? ;)

Besides, the room in your post looks awful! The floor looks cheap and tatty, the bed frames dated and the fixtures I wouldn't elevate above 3* at MOST. I'm frankly amazed it has a flatscreen TV!

The only problem of knowing true luxury is knowing what you are missing ;)

Wow …a helipad! TWO HELIPADS!! Have you used them? Curious as to how much they charge for that. For the record, ”that” picture isn‘t up to date ..not that it matters.

If you think the rooms at the Poly look awful, then maybe deluxe resorts at Disney aren't for you. Not trying to be mean. I'm just being honest. Like I and others on this thread have said, Disney is not trying to sell you on luxury and are instead using their location and onsite perks to get you to book a room.

Let me put it this way...

I have been privileged enough to stay in a Venetian Suite in Vegas, a hotel so plush it has its own canal running through it. For about the same money, you get a Disney property, which is left wanting in comparison.

So I know what you CAN get for your buck.

What I'm getting at is that is the FOR THE MONEY, Disney properties are ONLY worth the extra stipend if you want to be in the thick of it all. And TBH, for the extra luxury, say, laid on by the Waldorf Astoria Florida, is to be desired, surely you can just slum your transport to and from the parks instead?

I wouldn't part with my money for what I'd get in most Disney resorts.

For the record, before I sign off for the night, several of the NICEST Disney World resorts ARE extremely nice, just a bit pricey compared to the out-of-park competition. This one is the Contemporary Resort, and it looks VERY nice! If I had an unlimited budged, this quality plus this location would make it a winner for me :)

I don’t think anyone would disagree, but Disney is clearly locked into DVC …they’ll take the rack rate customers at whatever the market will bear. DVC is one way to counter that if Disney is where you want to vacation. For instance, my “shabby” “deluxe” room cost me net less than $200/night. What more is Waldorf going to provide me? Granted, I’m not really impressed by imported Statuario marble in a hotel bathroom(which I’m sure they won’t give you anyway) …it’s nice but not necessary for my vacation. It would be much better when I’m at home.

I'm a dvc member and at what I pay I think it's fair but cash rates for deluxe ...I think the Four Seasons Orlando provides far superior value...it's actually my favorite resort I've ever stayed at overall. At this point if I'm paying cash I'm going FS every time, heck it's even in the MK resort area.

My point was more that there's nothing about the accommodations themselves that are any better at all than a much less expensive off-site property. This is a picture of a suite on the website of a place called the Grove Resort in Winter Garden. Prices are less than $300/night to sleep 5.

I know I just said FS wins hands down but if we are talking purely rooms Disney does have some nice options...I stayed at a copper creek cabin and that is my all time favorite room..though I've never stayed at a 2 bedroom fs suite. (Which I suspect would be more $)

You are paying a premium to stay on property and quite a premium at that. The resorts overall are not as nice as many lower cost locations and most of the extras have disappeared. It just depends on what you want in a resort.

I have stayed at a few deluxe resorts, all of the moderate and most of the budget. I really like a few of them and feel indifferent to or dislike the others. I have moved on so likely won't go back anyway.

To me, neither a canal nor helipad (however many) equate to "luxury". Are the rooms comfortable (ie: decent sized)? Are the beds comfortable? Are there amenities that *I* use? Are they in good shape?

And just about everyone on here has said the extra you pay for Disney hotel *IS* to be in the bubble. You're willing to spend the extra money for more "luxury" and arrange transport to the parks. Isn't it nice that everyone can decide what's important to THEM and make their own decisions? Too bad people feel the need to put down other's choices (that's how I'm reading your posts).

The last time we went to Disney, we did VRBO. Five of us in one house with three bedrooms, two baths, it's own pool/hot tub, and a pool table.

ETA: For that matter, how much time are you spending in the hotel anyway when you're doing an Orlando vacation?

I really loved that room design at the Contemporary and stayed there many times while they looked like that. I am not as enthused about the latest Incredibles inspired look.

I was thinking the same thing. How much time do you really spend in your room? I will say that now DH and I do spend more time than we did when we took the kids along. We now go for two to three weeks at a time to WDW and the parks aren't the draw that they once were, so we do spend more time in our room.

I checked out the pricing of FS Orlando at WDW, WOW talk about pricey. I wouldn't be doing that too often if at all. It better be nice for the prices I was seeing. For the end of Jan 2023, the prices ranged from $1,811 to $7,869 per night. Now that's pricey!

Oh, very much so. The fixtures, bed, amenities are all top quality in the resorts I've named, modern and unscuffed, well tended to and comfortable. I tend to spend a while in my room - I sleep in it of course, and often send out for room service so I can lounge around in the lap of luxury :) I haven't been on holiday for several years so have saved up enough to be able to splash out, if only for a little while
