Planning on arriving on a Saturday morning early, checking our bags then heading to Animal Kingdom for the day. We are looking for a good place to have lunch and are willing to head out of AK to do so. Going with DH and DD 14. Recommendations?

Although it's a bit out of the way of DAK, I always love a good lunch at Kona over at the Polynesian.

In that situation I would take the 5 minute bus ride to AKL Kidani and have a lovely lunch at Sanaa. Most times we have been able to get a table next to the Windows that overlook the savanah. This is one of our favorite restaurants for lunch.

If you're going to the AK, why not plan for lunch at the Yak and Yeti TS? I just ate TS lunch there 2 weeks ago, and it was very nice. DH and I almost always do TS at lunchtime, when it's quieter, a break is nice, and at some places the prices are lower.

It's possible to have a pretty decent TS meal inside AK. Tusker House is a character buffet, while Yak and Yeti is Asian a la carte. I agree with Silver Queen that Sanaa is a great option if you want a short break from the park.

I would not recommend going all the way to the Polynesian for lunch if you have any plans to be in AK in the afternoon.. It could take up to 45 minutes each way just for transportation. That's a lot of wasted time in a park that closes very early compared to the other parks.

Another vote for Yak & Yeti. The food is awesome-we eat there twice every trip. It is one of my DD's (19) favorite places in all of Disney.

We love Yak & Yeti table service at AK. I agree that Sanaa is a great choice also if your family is a little more adventurous. If for some reason you decide to switch and do a table service dinner instead, Boma is a perfect choice (open at 4:30pm for dinner service). I wouldn't venture outside of the park or AKL just for lunch...it takes way too much time unless you're not planning to go back to AK after you eat.

Minnie Mum has great suggestions.

But let me punctuate - you're traveling in, going to a Park, and are then willing to travel for lunch.

I'd eat inside AK or at (or nearest) my resort.

Virtually no food at Disney is worth traipsing to a far off resort from where you are and/or where you are staying.

We ate at Yak & Yeti for lunch 2 weeks ago and we enjoyed it very much. Great food and excellent service

How are you arriving that morning and at what time? If you are flying in, I wouldn't book a lunch ADR for that day until I was at my resort. With all the different ways you could get delayed and now that basically all ADRs require a credit card hold, you might just be better off seeing what is available for a time that you can guarantee to be there. It was one thing to book an ADR for lunch when you arrive in the morning when there as no hold, it's something else when it could cost you for reasons beyond your control.

If you are driving or just want to chance it anyway, if you want to stay in AK Y&Y is decent enough and if you are looking to leave I'd go with Sanaa (but AK is so big that it can be quite a hike just to leave the park, so I would try to stay if possible).

I'm going to echo the Yak & Yeti recommendation. We found the food to be pretty solid and the atmosphere to be quite nice. I agree with PP's who have suggested not traveling out of your way on a travel day. Especially when there are some great options more conveniently located!

If you want to leave the park, go over to Boma at AKL. Don't go back to a MK location. Even though the remoteness of AK and AKL is overstated, it's a long turnaround.

I agree with the others, Yak n Yeti is great and worth a visit. Only other suggestion I'd offer is going to AKL first and enjoying Sanaa. You really can't go wrong between the 2 from a food perspective, though I'd give it to Sanaa on the atmosphere. If you'd like to know more, here are our most recent visits to each:

Yak and Yeti and Sanaa are two of our favorites in general, so either would be a good option. Got the tuna nachos at Y&Y on Sunday and they immediately hit my top five list of favorite culinary delight at WDW. They also have one of the best burgers on property. Seems like an odd thing for an Asian restaurant, but for whatever reason they decided to put a burger on the menu, they nailed it. Sanaa is just solid all around and something a little different than what is readily available near home (for us, anyway), so it's a tasty and fun option.
