Lunch on the Ship

When you first get on the ship, are you assigned either a sit down restaurant OR Beach Blanket Buffet? Or can you choose between the two? Are the buffets the same in both places?

There is someone there usually directing you to either PC or Topsiders Buffet. Our tradition is to always eat at PC. So this year when we were told to go up I just said, "Well I really wanted to go to PC and he said o.k". It is the same menu at both places. The one reason I like to go to PC is to check out where out table will be.

We found the Beach Blanket Buffet to be very disappointing. I would hit Parrot Cay, although we never ate lunch (late breakfast eaters) their Breakfasts buffets were great. The pancakes however, were no good.

Interestingly, I just discovered on this trip that there are differences between PC and Topsiders. I usually like to eat at Beach Blanket because I don't feel so crowded, but on this trip I realized that they have regular salad lettuce while PC has field greens (which I prefer), and PC also has pesto sauce which hubby likes to put on the alredo pasta. The differences aren't huge, but I was surprised that there were any!

One thing to consider is that all the buffett food is prepared in PC, so it is thought by most that the fresher food, especially fruits and salads, are to be had there in PC. I guess it loses some of it's freshness in route to Topsiders, and for the same reason, certain items are not even taken there.

I didn't realize that we had a choice between Topsider's and Parrot Cay. We always head there but are told to go up to Topsider's. I always felt a little slighted when They directed us up top, but went where they told us.
