This will be our first time at WDW. Is it true that when we arrive we can leave our luggage at the check in desk to get started at the park and that they will deliver our luggage to our rooms?

You can leave your luggage with bell services - different than the front desk.

Generally you have to call from your room for luggage to be delivered.

And don't forget to tip bell services when they deliver your luggage! I usually give the person who stores my bags a tip, too.

You will leave it will bell services/luggage services. If you want it delivered you will have to call for it on arrival (sporadically a couple values delivery luggage un-requested but that is because they don’t have enough storage space) and this can take some time. Alternatively, you can pick up your luggage from them yourself on return from the parks to take to your room.

We dropped ours at bell service and headed straight to Disney Springs. They give you a claim ticket. We picked ours up on our way to our room. Easy peasy.
