Luggage tag question

Been a while since my last cruise... do they still send luggage tags and some sort of welcome packet? Leaving in a bit more than a week and haven't received anything yet. Just wondering when / if i would receive something. TIA!

Yes they do, its just the luggage tags and a letter with your cruise details. About 50% of passengers dont get it before the cruise. They will have staff at the port doing manual luggage tags. You will be asked about your luggage tags and directed to the staff if you need them.

Thanks for the replies - I called DCL and indeed it was mailed about 45 days before the cruise and unfortunately it never arrived. It is too late for me now so I will just use the tags at the port... hopefully it doesn't delay the arrival to the room. I should have called earlier... so be sure to call if you don't receive yours by 30 days out. The rep says an "outside vendor" handles this. If indeed a lot of customers never receive them makes you wonder if the vendor is to blame 🤔

Even though you figured your specific situation out, I'll add a tip for anyone who may read this after the fact: Joining a Facebook group for your specific sailing is a great idea for many reasons, but this is another good one. In our previous cruise FB groups "luggage tag day" is a huge event. The day they start to arrive in mailboxes, people post photos of them, "OMG LOOK WHAT CAME TODAY!!!!!!" etc so if you don't receive them and see your timeline inundated with photos of luggage tags, that's a clue to call DCL.

To your other point, FWIW, I don't think the luggage tags being mailed or put on at the port has anything to do with how quickly they end up on the ship. On our last cruise in March, we got our tags in the mail. We had boarding group 4 and were on the ship by 11:45. We were in our rooms by 1:30. Our room faced the terminal at PC. We could literally see our bags on a luggage carrier down below from our veranda after the refueling ops were completed 😅 DW and I have very recognizable bags, especially when they're together. When we left for the muster drill they were STILL sitting there. They made it to the stateroom sometime while we were at the drill or sail away party and we had them when we went to change for dinner. The system is a very well-oiled machine, but I sure as heck don't understand how it works! 😜

Good info thanks :) Not much of a FB guy but to your point it would be nice if DCL actually notified you when they were sent so you could look out for them.

LOL I feel you on that. I use FB for exactly two things: DCL Cruise Groups/Fish Extenders and looking at photos of my family members. If I could do those two things somewhere else, I'd never log on to FB again.

Just FYI for anyone who books a VGT, OGT or IGT stateroom, your luggage tags aren’t mailed at 45 days. They are mailed after your stateroom is assigned. For our last 2 cruises, cabins were assigned on day 8 before the cruise. Luggage tags were then sent UPS since there wasn’t enough time to use USPS like normal. For our cruise last week, our tags arrived the day before we left for the cruise.

hopefully it doesn't delay the arrival to the room.
It does not seem to impact delivery at all. We've had to do that a couple of times, and so have our friends, especially when they book VGT, which they often do. And they've arrived when they usually do if we use the mailed tags.

^^ Thanks for the feedback!

FWIW it was 9 days before sailing and the agent said it was too late to send? Not sure why...

Resurrecting this thread to ask if anyone knows what system DCL uses to decide when to send out luggage tags. Is it by Castaway status, region of recipient, based on when people booked, other...?

(Asking because some people in my FB group have reported receiving their tags but nothing for us yet! We're Silver and booked when booking for Silver was first available, should any of that make a difference.)

I'm not sure there is a system, lol.

On the EBTA we have a lot of people sailing from countries outside the US. Those luggage tags seemed to start showing up a few weeks ago (based on comments in the FB group). Then, about a week ago, we started seeing more comments from people in the US getting theirs. So I don't know if DCL sent out the ones going father away sooner to give them more time to get there?

We're concierge on this sailing and I'm Gold CC status and we haven't gotten ours yet. I didn't poll CC status of those who had gotten theirs to compare their timing against mine, so I'm not sure if CC status plays into it.

Thanks! Maybe they just use the dart board approach! 🤣

Also, since this an old thread: now luggage tags are sent out to those with GTY cabins at the same time as those who know their cabin. They just have a space to write in the cabin number yourself. That’s what we got recently.

I have been on 5 cruises now, silver, and mine always came early enough that I tended to misplace them and have to search for them last minute. As I recall they were oversized envelopes that could have been mistaken perhaps for credit card offers LOL

Thanks! I’ll keep an eye out for that type of envelope. We still open cc offers to shred those (so ought to spot the tags before shredding anything!) but haven’t had a DCL envelope, anyway. Hopefully it’s on its way!
