Where did you read that it was promising DME was coming back? Most people think it's highly unlikely. I can see the luggage option expanding, but not DME - especially if the luggage drop off does move to more resorts. You never know, but I do not think DME is coming back any time soon.
WDW Magazine with a quote below:
"In 2025, the
Wall Street Journal revealed that Disney had data that suggested only one-third of all Disney World guests used Disney’s Magical Express. That means the majority of Disney World’s visitors opted for other modes of transportation, like rental cars, rideshare services, or even other third-party services.
Even if demand was relatively low, it seems that Disney may be considering bringing back Disney World Resort hotel perks that make the transition to and from the airport a little easier. In March 2025, an old perk returned to Disney’s Value Resort hotel:
Luggage Transfer Assistance.
Luggage Transfer Assistance allows guests at select Resort hotels (in this case, Value Resort hotels) to check their bags at the hotel, skipping the process of having to check them in at the airport. Currently, the pilot program is only available for Southwest Airlines flights for guests staying at Value Resort hotels, and
only for returning luggage.
The (limited) return suggests that other discontinued perks for Disney World Resort hotel guests may also be in the process of being reevaluated by Disney. And if Resort Airline Check-In Service returns, there may be some possibility that Disney’s Magical Express returns, too.
However, there is no official word from Disney – and no pilot program currently running – on a potential return for Disney’s Magical Express."
This is hopeful/wishful thinking on my part and the fact that luggage transfer is being brought back in a broader test capacity along with another article that discussed the Orlando traffic and airport congestion impact that the loss of DME has caused along with the
Epic Universe park opening which also was expected to increase traffic, the DME was thought to help ease the Orlando road and airport congestion. It sounds accurate.
Regarding the traffic impact I read the below along with other articles,
"
In summary, the loss of Magical Express has shifted the transportation landscape in Orlando, leading to increased demand on alternative services and putting additional pressure on airport and road infrastructure. While there are still many options for travelers, the added complexity and potential for increased costs and congestion are noticeable impacts of the service's discontinuation."
For me, we'd love to see both come back. Once we get on that bus, the vacation has started and there's no traffic stress and all that comes with it in getting a ride, waiting for the ride, etc.
