My 13 year old daughter is going on a weekend trip to Canada with her school and several small trips over the summer and I would like to get her a small rolling suitcase for her travels. Something that is easy to take along and to clean. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good brand or style of luggage to suit a teenager?

I bought DGD a Swiss Gear 21" spinner (23" with wheels), telescopic handle plus soft grip handles on top and a long side (makes it easy to pickup when going up and down staircases, 2 exterior zippered pockets on the front face, a slide in pocket w/ Velcro on short side, 2" secondary zipper to expand the depth if need be, interior mesh zippered and removable compartments. The only thing I don't like is the ties go from side to side instead of criss-crossing. Exterior fabric has a good denier which makes it hard to cut or fray. All corners are reinforced with vinyl or plastic over the corners and center back. The wheels and telescopic handle are easily accessible if they need changing/repairing.

Bought it at either Kohls or Target in a discontinued color (cranberry) for somewhere between $40.00- $50.00. She was 11.5 when I bought it and I expect she'll be able to take it to college. She was blinded by the light of some cutesy pink luggage but finally convinced her it might not be in style a few years down the road.

The size I bought fits in most airline overhead compartments and can readily hold up to 2 weeks worth of clothing w/ judicious packing.

Cleaning is easy. Just a little Dawn, a drop of ammonia and lukewarm water followed by a white vinegar and cold water rinse. Generally you can get by with spot cleaning.

If you have a TJ Max near you, go there. They always have a great luggage selection at very good prices.

I bought my older DD this one and she loves it for overnight/weekend trips.

I bought my younger kids (12) these and liked them so much I bought myself one. They also have a rolling backpack version of these.

Some really nice features on that one. I particularly like the electronic organizer that zips down.

@dish rag - In my world children have not "earned" Tumi until they have a 4 year degree under their belt. Interim, said juveniles can glance at grandmother's and aspire;).

Yeah, it’s a really well thought out bag. I bought her an XL power bank for the USB port and she has no worries in airports now as far as charging.

If you don’t mind spending the money, Vera Bradley was popular when my DD went on group trips.

Target. Get a hard side with four wheels.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Some of these bags I will be considering purchasing for myself this summer. As most of our bags got pretty dinged up on our 5 week grandparent tour last summer.

I actually just found her a bag that hits everything I was looking for. It's very similar to this one https://www.jcpenney.com/p/rockland-22-rolling-duffel-bag-animal-print/pp5004110925?COLOR=Pink+Leopard&rrec=true&pTmplType=regular&rrplacementtype=product1_rr

Thanks again!

My daughter was gifted a zebra bag like that. It was from Justice and it was a 9th birthday present. I think she only used it for sleepovers at the givers house. We later donated it. It wasn’t quality that I would put on an airplane.

As someone who travels often, you want the four spinner wheels.

I got my daughter a great small spinner bag at Costco. It's perfect for visits home from college.
