Luck Of The Draw At Poly?

On the second half of our upcoming WDW vacation, I was wondering whether or not to even request a longhouse. We will be staying there 2 nights and have a gardenview.

When we last stayed at the Poly in 2000, upon checking in, we were shown the map of available rooms and views.

Do you think it would be best if we didn't have a certain longhouse request? I was interested in maybe Fiji on the 3rd floor w/balcony facing the marina, but what would the odds be of me actually getting it since it only is a request?

I think they do try to give you the longhouse you request if they can. It's definitely better than not making any request at all. I wouldn't count on them pulling out a map and giving you a choice, that is really unusual. I don't think that has ever happened to us on any trip to WDW over the years. Most of the time when you check-in and give them your last name you can remind them at that time of your requests ... sometimes they will move you if they can. It really just depends on how full the resort is.

I would make your request - it can't hurt, and then like Erika said remind them about it when you check in. That has always worked for us and we've been fortunate to always receive what we had requested.

We have requested the 3rd floor Fiji facing the marina this year as well! If you get it you'll have to let me know how you liked it - the pics on Tikiman's website look great from this view.

One great thing about the Poly is there are very few garden view rooms that don't have beautiful views. Unlike some resorts where you may be stuck looking at a rooftop the worst case scenario at the Poly is facing a parking lot - and, again, there aren't that many of those.

Thanks! I just got off the phone with CRO to request the Fiji 3rd Floor w/view of Marina added to my ressie. I also was on tikiman's website and saw how nice it looked. Last time we stayed at the Poly we were in Tuvalu with a lagoon view but on the 2nd floor with no balcony. Which kinda stunk, but now I know better.

Since I won't be able to fax over a request to the Poly 3 days prior to our arrival (we'll be on the Wonder) I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that we end up in that location.

From what I understand the resorts aren't looking at fax requests anymore anyway...I think your best shot is having it on your ressie.

We were there last week (we did 4 nights at POR and then 3 at Poly). I did not make a request for anything. When we arrived, I told the CM that we didn't need to get into our room right away since we were heading to Blizzard Beach. I explained that we would happily wait to move our stuff in if he could give us a room with a balcony. (At that point, that was really all we wanted -- we were Garden View, not Water View.) The CM was so nice. He said, oh, I'm so glad you can wait. I can have a great room for you on the third floor of Fiji overlooking the marina if you don't mind waiting until you get back from your outing. I said that sounded perfect. . . . And it was. Room 3318 was great. (No refrigerator, but I didn't need it. I was just surprised since we had one at POR.)

So, for all you folks wanting a 3rd floor room at Fiji overlooking the marina, you may just luck into it like we did. Tikiman advised me that he never makes a special building request and has, with the exception of one time, been happy with the assignment. The one time he didn't like the room, he asked to be moved and that was honored.
