:confused3 I'm planning our first trip to Disney and have a question...:cool1:

We are staying at the Poly the week of Halloween and I scheduled the Luau for Oct 30th 8pm show (after spending a non-disney day at SeaWorld)...

But I also heard that there is trick or treating and fun Halloween activiteis Downtown Disney that night...

Which do you think my kids would prefer...DD6 and DS11? Will they be bored at the luau? Is the trick or treating worth it? We are going to MNSSHP on Oct 31st so it's not like they would be missing out on treats and Halloween fun...

I did mention the luau to my DH (who is bored with my obsessive planning) and my DS...they are both leaning towards Downtown Disney...

The luau has such mixed reviews...I really NEED HELP!!!

I don't know how old your kids are, but we took our girls last year... A 9yr old, 7yr old, and two 4 yr olds..we went to the luau and the adults enjoyed it.,...great food and entertainment, the girls enjoyed it too for awhile, then they got a bit bored. They did have a time when the girls can go up and dance with the cast, they enjoyed that, and they also have food especially for the kids, but again, it was a bit long for them. We are going down this Halloween as well, and I asked them if they wanted to go to the Luau again, and they said no. Just letting you know my experience. Hope it helps.

Well, the thing about trick-or-treating is they want to eat all the candy they get!! Since you are also going to MNSSHP, where candy is rumored to be plentiful, I wouldn't go looking for more! I would consider the Hoop De Doo Revue instead of the Luau though, or since your day will be so full w/Sea World, just plan to relax at the pool.

If I'm not mistaken trick or treating starts as early at 5pm a downtown disney. Your hotel should also have some trick or treating stations located throughout the hotel. I would let them do some trick or treating first and then head to the luau. It's one of our dd 8 fav things to do before we head home!

We'll be there that week too. I got MNSSHP tickets for 10/28--I'm cheap. :) I've been trying to figure out what to do on Halloween ourselves. I'm thinking Hoop-dee-doo and a haunted hayride, but then htere is trick-or-treating.

Ok, back to you. You aren't missing out on trick-or-treating Halloween day, so I think you'd be fine if you missed it at DtD. I think it's nice to get in different experiences. The Luau seems to be hit or miss, so the only way you're going to know is if you actually do it.

Sorry. Not much help, I know.

We wil be at mnsshp on the 28th also!! Since we are doing that on the 28th we are going to be at epcot on halloween night w/EMH I've heard it's pretty dead that night. Thought maybe we'd take the illuminations cruise. Have you done the haunted hayride before? what's it like? I was thinking about doing it but couldn't find out any info. My kids scare easily so I have to know ahead of time what I'm getting into.:confused3

I have not done the haunted hayride; it will be a first for us. Here is the link to the carriage and wagon rides on All Ears. The Haunted Hayride is at the bottom; there's also a link at the top if you're lazy like me. ;) Info is 2007; I was thinking of calling this weekend to see what is up, but it's still early. Here is also an Anita Answer Q. concerning the Haunted Hayride.

Hope that helps!

Thanks, accordng to Anita it's pretty scary! Guess we'll have to wait a few years for that one :scratchin

the Luau will always be there any time of the year, nearly any night of the year but trick or treating at Downtown Disney probably only happens a few nights a year. I think i'd go w/ the Trick or Treating! Have fun!

My kids enjoy trick or treating DTD, and I love that they get to wear their costume once more (I make them, so it's nice when they are well used!) But if you are going to MNSSHP and they wouldn't be missing out on dressing up and getting candy I say go to the Luau. Remember that DTD is an open and free area and the kids in the Orlando area go trick or treating there too not just WDW guests, so it gets a little crazy down there. But if you go be sure to stop by the lego store, the kids think it's cool to get a special lego in their treat bags.;)
Good luck, hope you have fun, it's our favorite time to go to WDW!
