Been to Disney many times but never done either of these....going in early OCTOBER w/DD2&DD5 & mom (partially handicap/uses cane)& aunt & sister & DH....will probably end up w/extra TS so thought about doing one of these our first night....under the circumstances above, which would you recommend?

Really appreciate the help.

We've Hooped and Luau'd. Both are accessible - and both are a bit problematic in that tables are close together, etc.
It may take you a few minutes to get seated, but once you are, you'll be fine.
The Hoop moves at a pretty brisk pace, waiters/waitresses dropping buckets (really) of chicken, corn ribs at the table for everyone to grab from.
The luau has long tables with benches as well as traditional four-seaters depending on where you sit.
I like the Hoop personally - to me the Luau is ashow - the Hoop, you can't help but get involved, and sing and laugh, etc.
Personal preference, I guess.....

I second the HDR vote. It was a lot of fun. We sat down front by making an early ADR. I think you may have different seating options with the changes this year.

DS10 got to be sung to by one of the show dancers during the start of things. It was pretty funny to watch him blush when he realized she was going to singel him out after talking with him first. :rotfl:

I think it was two TS credits when we did it on the DDP last year.

Never been to the HDR, but our family loved the Luau. DS3, DS3 and DD5 were captivated by the show. Since you have two girls, they might love all the beautiful costumes and dancing.

Also suggest HDR. I've been to both, and could have slept through the Luau! Plus, since it is outside, weather can be an issue. With the changes to the DDP this year and HDR, you are limited to tier 2 and 3 if using DDP. Since tier 3 is all upstairs, you should make your reserv. soon and request tier 2 (explain the mobility issue) and downstairs (tier 2 is split half up and half down but in the back. Don't worry someone posted that the chairs are slightly higher back there so seeing shouldn't be an issue).

Another for the Hoop, went HDR 3 times before and last year first time the luau .
I would probably do HDR 3 more time before going back to the luau.
Note: individual tables per family at the HDR where as long tables at luau where you sit with other families (if this would matter to you).
Do the HOOP:thumbsup2

Hi, we did Luau with kids 10, 7, and 4 last year and everyone loved it. We are going to do HDDR this January. Just remember, they are both Disney! Which means that everyone will have a great time.

I can't wait to see what all the HDDR fuss is about! We just didn't do the 180 day resies and couldn't do it on the last trip.

Have fun!
