Lowest to Highest Resale Price DVC Resorts

My fear with purchasing restricted resorts resale points is the wear and tear the last couple years before a rehab. Resorts are amazing when they first open. Sadly, we had a couple stays that made us realize rehabs don’t always happen as soon as they should. YMMV.

Another great point. You may want to swap in the 7-month period when the rooms are looking particularly tired OR if there is a major renovation going on.

I also don’t want to commit to staying at one resort every year (even though it would be a terrible use of points to use my BCV/VGC anywhere other than the home resort—but it may occasionally happen with orphaned points (just happened with 2 banked VGC points I can’t make use of at home due to a change in plans but if it was restricted resale they would just be gone instead of being spent at BCV)). It’s even more complicated because not only can you not transfer them to another membership to stay elsewhere during remaining life UY, but you also can’t mix any of your other resale points at other resorts if you need more points to snag an available room category at your restricted resort. I guess you can buy OTUP if you are only a few points shy and haven’t already done so?

In any event, I don’t see restricted resale making sense for most people who don’t have tremendous predictability year after year.

I feel the same way about VGF points. It would pain me to use them anywhere besides VGF or VGC. That's when I am tempted to buy SAP, but then I say why not just get more VGF resale? Then none of my offers are accepted and I am tempted to contact my guide for more direct

And this is definitely something that one needs to think about before buying it.

Having stayed and owned at many, we have come to settle in that RiV and VGF are tops and being stuck there works.

I have a girls weekend coming up in a few weeks and we are doing SSR because we are not doing parks…well, I am the first day but they don’t arrive until 10:00 pm.

And, if it wasn’t for conserving points to purchase my AP and knowing the trip will revolve around resort and DS, I am already feeling down about no RiV!!

But, we also don’t need variety. Before DVC, we stayed almost exclusively at Contemporary. Tried others and after a night or two, I switched us because it just wasn’t the same!!

You guys are bringing up so many good points. I already had to transfer points twice to use them all for this upcoming trip and they got snippy with me about it of course, I couldnt imagine throwing in another contract that couldnt be mixed with them.

I mean the amount of points a trip needs would have to align perfectly with the points you have which how realistic is that. At least with other resort choices i have the option to transfer points or switch resorts to accomplish that.

I guess you can forever bank or borrow or the otup option which I did buy those this year, but at 20 dollars a point it's really not ideal and I was like man I wish this new contract would go thru so I dont have to do that again. I bought 46 points across 2 memberships which comes out to just shy of $1000 that's a lot to be spending, I'd rather have another contract

I think resale riv is probably ideal for someone that has owned a while and stayed everywhere and truly just wants to stay at that hotel or they own other points and like split stays and know that riv is one they will be at every trip along with others.

That's the beauty of having a ton of points at a cheap resort that aint popular, no matter where you stay you came up i know there are other issues with this

My guess is when they relaxed it for owners of multiple memberships it did get exploited.

Remember, it’s only been about 4 to 5 years they even allowed owners multiple ones.

But, it would be way too cumbersome on trying to make exceptions, especially since so many owners have different interpretations of what should and should not even constitute renting out of bounds

Some owners have pushed for them to do something about it and this seems to be a good change to have some impact without it having negative impact on too many.

I personally hope any further changes made do the same…impact those who they are targeting way more than those who don’t.
