I see the threads for people with the most points but I was wondering how many people bought into DVC at the lowest point total? I know it would be resale and just wondered if they ROFR non members more often below minimum points? So has anyone bought in sucessfully at less points? What did you do with small number of points?

I am thinking of going every other year so that might work for me but thought it was difficult if not meeting minimum points required through DVC. They may excercise more often on those small contracts to non members?? :confused3

it took me 5 days to get through ROFR for 100 pnts @ BCV (based on posting that seems to have been a miracle). TSS did the paperwork... highly recommend them.

i am now processing closing docs.

I bought 100 pnts b/c i plan to go everyother year also... and then it allows me to step up as needed in the future... or sell easily if needed.

good luck.

I don't remember the numbers, but that same question has been asked in the past, and it's possibly someone did a poll.

I'm pretty sure there were a number of people who bought in at about 50 points, and there may have been one or two who bought in at 25 or so.

As you may know, 25 points is the minimum possible since that's the minimum to do an add-on for an existing member.

Sometimes lower contract sizes aren't as good a deal if you're paying closing costs. $350 closing on a 25 point contract adds $14/point, while $400 closing on a 100 point contract only adds $4/point.

Yup, just to verify what Caskbill said, we weren't the buyers though, we were the sellers. Since it was a private sale, we talked to the buyers directly-it was their first DVC purchase and they were planning to bank and borrow to go to WDW ever 2-3 years off season. Anyone here buy at 25 or 50 points?

We bought 25 at OKW. I had planned to buy a larger contract actually (probably 50 only) but when TTS called I grabbed it, and boy am I glad I did! That was about a year ago and it seems like now it is impossible to get a small contract even at SSR! We paid $78/point.

Here was my reasoning for buying a small contract:
1. We have no debt other than our mortgage and we don't plan to have any, so we paid cash for these points.
2. I knew we could add on at any time through Disney
3. We knew we could have points transfered from another member easily and those points would remain in our control at any time we needed to add points to a reservation (we have now done this for 2 trips and it was painless).
4. We live in Salt Lake City and have 2 small children, so we figured we would typically come every other year to WDW.

It has worked out great! My maintenance fees were only about $100 last year! We have stayed in a 2BR villa with my parents (they paid for the additional 50 points we needed) and we are staying in a 1BR next Feb. at OKW (had 30 points transfered and used 2 years of our points).

I would like more points, but DH isn't convinced yet...when we do buy more points, it will be cash for us, probably at BWV.

We purchased a 60 pt contract through the TSS and everything was fine with the ROFR. We did not want to buy in to a larger contract until we had a chance to try it out. We borrowed some points and were able to get a week at BWV for September. If we find we enjoy DVC then we will add on. I don't think Disney is any morelikely to ROFR a purchase because of the amount of points.

If you check out the ROFR thread (don't know how to insert a link yet), you will notice that alot of smaller point contracts for new members appear to be getting ROFRed recently. So it has become much more difficult. Small contracts are few and far between to begin with and then the ROFR monster has to be considered.

I personally see alot of advantages to starting out with a small contract. It is just getting one through the whole process that seems to be getting more difficult.

We bought just 50 pts. at VWL. It was our second try...our first try was 60 at OKW, it was ROFRed.

We got a bonus 34 banked points, so we are using those, plus this years 50 for a total of 84 at VWL for Christmas weekend (84 pts, how perfect!)

Next year we will just have the 50 and will have to buy 10 more from another member to make 60 pts, which we will use at Boardwalk hopefully for our November 2007 trip. S-F stay, staying Value for Friday and Sat. nights.

Until we can buy more points, in a few years, we will just buy the extra pts we need from another member.

I guess we were one of the lucky ones...we purchased 100 points at SSR for $80 pt back in Sept and passed on our first try. Our purchase was through TTS and everything went smoothly. It seems Disney started cracking down on the non-members wanting small contract right after we bought in.

Now the bad news...we didn't have enough willpower against the Friends & Family promo, we added on in Dec. :teeth:
