Lowe's Shed kits

We're looking at sheds to replace the 1 currently falling apart in our yard. We saw some at Lowes that have DIY prices and picked up the book that went with them. Supposedly pre-assembled and easy to do yourself. Just HOW EASY is it???

When you answer consider that most of our building experience is based on Sauder furniture. We're just looking for something small and as inexpensive as we can get. Trying to stay under 1 grand while not buying something that will need to be replaced in a few years.

If you post the manufacturer and some basic information someone might be able to help you.


First of all, what material are you talking about? Vinyl, wood, aluminum, etc.

If you are referring to their aluminum shed kits, it took DH a couple of weekends to assemble. It has been a sturdy shed and it has been in the yard for about 10 years and it just now needing to be replaced. He did build above ground, so that might have helped.

GF and I bought one of the aluminum sheds from Lowes last spring and put it up ourselves. It took about two days, but it was rather painless. We only got a small one though. If I remember correctly it is 10'X6'. Also at this time of year, they normally sell the flooring kit to go with the shed. That is just a frame for the floor to go on, not the floor itself. To do the floor you need some plywood sheets and probably some cinder blocks to help level it out, that's what I used.

We're looking at the wood kits. We really don't think the aluminum would last very long. They say they're pre-assembled and easy to do. Mostly we're trying to avoid financing a shed.

You could probably hire a carpenter or two off Craigslist, if you find the shed is too much to deal with, putting together on your own. You'd still save money in the long run.
