Low rise jeans are not for everyone!

And could someone please tell me when it became OK to let tweens dress sexy? When did 12 year olds suddenly start putting it out there???? *sigh* I'm crawling back under my rock. I swear when I have kids, Potato sacks, gosh dangit. :rolleyes1

Uhhh, right about the time that the stores decided to ONLY sell provocative clothing. And YOU try to get your 14 year old to buy a pair of Land's End jeans. Ain't happening.

My DD gets all her clothes at the usual stores, but I watch everything she buys. I get the most "generous" low rise that we can find. But still, everything is skimpy. Have you noticed even in the dead of winter, apparently women of all ages and sizes don't have a requirement for SLEEVES anymore?

Bite your tongue. I can finally find jeans that fit. I have a tiny waist and an "ample" bottom, so in the past to fit my butt and thighs meant I had to have a gaping waist. I don't have that problem anymore. Low rise jeans are the best thing EVER (at least for me).

Same here - teeny waist, junk in the trunk. Low rise jeans are great for the pear shaped woman. :goodvibes

You are right, but even people who are a size 6 are having this problem. It is not just a 'plus sized' problem. I see girls who are a size 5 squeezing in to a size 1 or 3 and (of course) the result is muffintops. I can squeeeeeeze myself in to my old size 5 jeans. Doesn't mean I look good in them.
Oh I totally agree with that!!! I am sure I could squeeze myself into a 2 or a 0 if I really really tried, but I sure as heck am not going to try! That's where the muffin tops happen

I wore lower waisted jeans when I was a 14/16... I NEVER had that look! People just are not buying the right sizes... and the stretch jeans aren't helping with it much either ;)

Buy your size... trust me, you'll look far more attractive wearing it and probably even smaller than what you tried to squeeze yourself into

The worst part is when you start getting used to the low rise. Everything I've bought in the last 3 years has been low rise: jeans, skirts, and dress pants for work.

So, this past month I ordered a skirt and blouse set from Coldwater Creek (notorious for very conservative clothing). Well, the skirt was right out of the 1980s/1990s. The waist was actually right around my naval.

Well, the darned skirt drove me nuts all day. I haven't had anything around my waist that high in years. And, apparently, unbeknownst to me, my waist has gotten a little "thicker" as waistlines are "want" to do when you hit your 40s. I ended up feeling like a fat cow all day and couldn't wait to get that skirt off.

So, I think these low-rise pants are contributing to the fattening of America. :teeth:

I think you might be on to something there! I started feeling the same way. Once you get used to them you can't wear your old pants.

I used to love coldwater creek. (back when I was trying to dress older for work. No one wants your therapist to look young and hip) but now that I am a SAHM and trying to look more like a MIL ;) I have changed styles. Since I lost some weight too I need new pants. However I would't dream of craming myself into too small pants. I hate tight tummy aches!

While I agree that super low waisted jeans are not for everyone, and think that muffin top is icky, most people look better with a jean that is slightly lower. (Now, I am not talking superlow, I am talking just below the waist.) Those "mom jeans" that come up high don't look good on ANYONE! They create the look of a belly whether you have one or not. They are especially bad if they are tapered down to the ankle. I am talking about these: http://www2.oprah.com/presents/2005/young/fashion/fashion_jeans_102.jhtml

In that first picture, I am talking about the jeans on the left.

Those high waisted jeans are also most likely to create that thing that I will call a "frontal wedgie" (I think that other word used to describe it is not allowed on this board.)

I think that for many people, muffin top is really a size issue with the jeans. That stuff has to go somewhere and if it squeezed to much, it is going to go up! (Sigh...I just had to put a pair of pre-baby jeans in back of the drawer as almost 18 months later, they are STILL causing a muffin top look....)

lil mermaid,
I agree with you. The old "mom" jeans are just terrible. I remembe that's all you can get. And I HATE a tapered leg.

I'm having very good luck with jeans from Ann Taylor and Target that are selling jeans that sit above my hip bones but below my waist. I do have a problem with them sticking out in the back though and I always have to wear a belt. Oh, and the shirts are long enough to cover my back when I bend over. I guess that's what I hate the most: feeling the cold air on my back when I bend over.

Sometimes accidents happen, not that I would know. ;) On that note I would like to send out a personal apology to those who witnessed my thong at Epcot on Saturday night. I am not used to taking care of a young child, and I wasn't dressed appropriately for the task. I went to sit on the ground with her, and well I exposed myself a little for like 5 seconds. :rotfl:
There is absolutley nothing wrong woth that at all everyone needs to see a little floss now and then.

I am usually a size 2 or 4, sometimes 0....but I still have extra skin and stretch marks from being pregnant....so I try my best to buy higher cut jeans/slacks...I like Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor loft when they have sales. To me, it is not flattering to have it all out there, JMHO. At least covered up, you can hide the flaws...and no one has to know ;) I used to always were little bikinies in my younger days...now I wear a tankini and skirt...I think, for me, that style is more flattering...I don't think you need to show it all to be attractive...sometimes less is more.

Ah the Camel Toe long live the toe LOL. There is even a website dedicated to it I am not going to post the link but I am sure everyone here can figure it out.

No cavities I bet!! :rotfl: :earseek:

Exactly and really the only people at risk when vieing said floss is the older group that may have pacemakers and weak hearts LOL.

I hate it, Because a size 3 isnt a size 3. Sometimes my size 3 can be a 5 or 1 so instead of grabbing 5 pairs of size 3 jeans I have to grab 15, one with 3 different sizes.I wear my low rise jeans with a belt, so they dont go tooooo low. Someone in my school bent over and flashed a thong to the whole class.

I completely agree - very good points.

Kelly

Thanks for the visual, I know just what you mean. I would find a delicate way to tell my daughter that she didn't look good in clothes rather than let her go out into the world looking like she's clueless.

Alright, what on earth is a muffin top???

A muffin top is a when a person wears low-rise jeans and stomach flab hangs over the sides of the jeans.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!! :earseek: I wish those low-rise pants would just go away!

I can't even get away with some ultra low rise jeans because my butt is just too big. If I sit down i'll basically be mooning everyone.

Low rise = good for me. Ultra low rise = indecent exposure. :rotfl2: I just wish other women (and guys!) had the common sense to realize that some fashion trends just don't work for some people.
