What is the real deal? I read that these may cause a stall in weight loss. Is this true? How many wishers have had this concern?

I like to nibble on these every now and then and don't have a concern.....haven't noticed any problems...

I don't know if it was a coincidence or not, but I wasn't losing any weight when I ate low carb candy. Several days after I quit, I lost several pounds. I decided it wasn;t worth it for me. It will still be there when I am at maintenance stage. For now I stick to sugar free jello or popsicles. They are enought to satisfy my occasional sweet tooth. :)

I also found problems while eating Atkins breakfast bars and Atkins candy bars. It seems like b-fast bars cause more stalling for me than candy, but I'm not taking a chance.

When I stopped them both, the weight has started dropping again. For now, I'll just leave them alone.

They taste great, but not at the expense of my weight loss.

However, everyone is different. If you want to give it a try, see what happens, but be prepared to stop if you see a stall.

Most of the bars contain a combination of glycerine and sugar alcohols. Both are allowed to be netted from the carb count because generally they have a lesser impact on blood sugar levels. However, this is one of those YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY items. It has been documented that for many people glycerine and sugar alcohols DO affect blood sugar levels. And consequently, some people can eat these with no problems losing - and others cannot.

Through personal experimentation I have found that the real culprit for me is the glycerine. It is not good for me. I can have limited amounts of sugar alcohols with no real problem - however if I get carried away with it... I stall.

One of the things about moving through the phases of low carb eating... is that you develop the skill to "experiment" carefully when adding in new items... evaluating the effect and isolating the change - so if it works out GREAT! If not... you know what you need to avoid or limit.

Hubby and I haven't noticed any slowdown in weight loss while enjoying the atkins morning start and advantage bars.

we tried an experiment right here on the wish board where people stayed away from all of the "fake stuff" for 2 weeks. Most people found it made a BIG difference to their weight loss. I agree that the occaisional one probably won't hurt but I think they can stall you.

I am the same way. SF candy in small doses works but the bars absolutely do not.

I found a site once that told of some research done on Atkins bars by OSU and partially funded by the Atkins Center. The outcome was that while they don't impact blood sugar (significantly) they still cause a rise in insulin. If I ever find the site again I'll add it to my post.
