Loved FP+ for Christmas week

I know there is a ton of controversy around the system, but I absolutely LOVED having the FP+ system for Christmas week.

We had 9 day PH tickets. Every day we used well more than our original 3 fast passes, and most days we used FP in multiple parks. Most days we had 6-7 fast passes, plus multiple rides where we waited in line (teacups, carousel, etc., had <20 minute lines).

Some great advantages:

1) Got to the safari in AK for a 8-9 am FP, and there was a 5 minute wait. Used the app to switch to pick up another ride later in the day, instead of wasting the FP for a 5 minute line.

2) Same thing with Star Tours. Walked on, then used the FP for later in the day.

3) No problem getting 4th-7th FP during Christmas week. Even got an Electrical Parade FP on Dec. 22, I think, as our 5th FP. Had multiple other openings for the electrical parade that I saw on the kiosk. Also regularly got options (and used 4+ FP) for Pirates, Haunted Mansion, & Big Thunder Mountain (some of our favorites).

4) Best use of a kiosk: pick up a FP for anything, then swap it to another ride or time, as works best for you. We did this multiple times. There might be limited availability when you're at the kiosk, but if you check the app 10 minutes later, Thunder Mountain pops up as available, etc. (And no, I didn't waste scads of time doing this. I routinely would swap around when waiting in line for another ride, etc.).

5) We upgraded to an annual pass during the trip without any problem or error with our fastpasses.

Only annoyance: families that must have all 6/8/10 members of their party at a kiosk while they debate, at length, what they might want. Figure out your options in advance and keep moving, people. :)

Oh, and one glitch. Disney's WiFi went down briefly on Christmas Day just before the noon parade. If you had a smart phone, you could be admitted to the parade FP area by showing your MDE fastpass. If not, you had to wait about 5-7 minutes for their WiFi to reboot. But no crises and everyone got in well before the parade started.

Advice: Be flexible when getting additional fast passes. If you'll ride anything (we will), then just grab something. You can either ride it and grab another, or you can luck into swapping the ride or time out for something different using the app.

Advice #2: If you're leaving the park for dinner but plan to return, book an extra FP at a kiosk before you leave the park. Then you'll have a ride all ready to go when you return. (Or you can fiddle with your FP while waiting for a Disney bus). :)

That is my annoyance there and at food lines. Food lines are long. I often find myself waiting 10-15 minutes in line. The menu is on the board in front clear to see. Why wait until you are up to the register to put down your phone and then decide what you want? I not only have what I want in mind I also have my payment ready. Think of others people!

I enjoyed FP+ during Christmas week as well! We typically did RD and got so many rides in with less than 20 minute waits. Then we had FP+ scheduled for the afternoon, after lunch. A few times we had then scheduled for the evening.

I never even used a fourth or fifth because we had done so much during the RD mornings that there was no need and we were ready to leave the parks around dinner time. A good example would be riding SM three times at RD MK (7 am) and RnR twice followed by ToT during DHS RD. EPCOT we rode Test Track twice on standby with 5 minute and 15 minute waits at RD.

I will say that next year, I'll still do the RD, but I will take a break in the afternoon, and then return to a park in the evening with FP+. I like that touring strategy better.

of course, that's not just an issue at Disney...see it all the time at counter service places like Starbucks and even In and Out Burger (come on! they only have around 6 items how hard is it to pick! I can understand at WhataBurger where the options are numerous)

and the grocery store...why do people wait until the cashier gives them the total to start looking for their checkbook and filling it out?

So glad to see these positive posts about FP+ during Christmas week!!! My family of 11 is going next year for Christmas and I was worried about how the new system would affect the busiest week of the year (we were there for Christmas week a few years ago).
Thanks for the reports!!! :santa:
