My mother has always told me to find the humor in things.
So here's a Delswife story inspired by mom.
First, I'll explain what's going on with her. She is a 78 yr. old little old lady with diabetes, angina and a few other health problems. She started having trouble with gallstones that moved into her bile duct became infected. Without surgery this is fatal. She was very ill and in a great deal of pain.
They did the first surgery but had some complications and needed to send her to Beth Israel hospital in Boston where they were better equipped to handle her situation.
When you are dealing with someone of that age with as many medical conditions as she has it becomes a very risky procedure.
My brothers and I were informed of the risks by the doctors and were told to expect the worst.
Those doctors were unaware of my 60,000+ closest friends and the amazing power of prayer.
Thank you all so very much. Love ya, really really mean it.
I have an address now from my brother for get well cards. PM me or send to my email rcostell@maine.rr.com and I will get it to you. Thank you so much for the offers, my mom loves to get mail it is the highlight of her day.
Well, that and doing laundry. She loves clean clothes.
This past week has been a total blur my brothers and I. Unfortunately she still needs a stress test on her heart she's been ahving trouble there and another surgery to remove that trouble-making gallbladder.
Now that I have filled you in on what is going on, lets look for the humor in it. My mother is making me do this.
My family never really understood my love of the Dis and the Lodge, the friends I have made and what they have come to mean to me. When Brother and I returned back to mom's with our bad news I posted a request for prayers. That was hard to do because I was crying so much.
Brother was shocked when a few minutes later several people responded. It gave him and I great comfort.
It also made him cry like a big baby. He was nearly inconsolable when the post hit 100.
A few days ago (or whatever, time is a mystery to me now) when we arrived at Exeter hospital Brother knew I was stressed out and mad at my older brother because he hadn't been in to visit mom yet.
When we walked into the door there was a desk with a sign that read 'information' on it with a very nice older gentleman sitting there waiting to assist the in coming people.
After a few days of dealing with us, he may have taken an early retirement.
Brother walked straight over to the desk and asked "Excuse me sir, could you tell me the speed of dark?" The very nice older gentleman tipped his head and appeared puzzled. Brother said "I already know the speed of light, but how fast is dark?" Again confusing the man.
Brother took a step back, looked down at the sign and said "This is the information desk, isn't it? Thats the information I'm looking for."
He can always find a way to cheer me up.
Over the last few days Brother has made several attempt to gain information from the very nice older gentleman (who is now our friend) only to be disappointed time and time again.
The man also didn't know if you melt enough dry ice to fill a pool could you swim in it AND would you get wet?
He didn't know where the other sock goes, what the meaning of life is OR how much wood would a wood chuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood.
I'm off to bed now my dear friends, I will keep you updated as the days go by, I have so much more to share with you.
Love ya, Mean it.
Brother sends his love.
