My mother has always told me to find the humor in things.

So here's a Delswife story inspired by mom.

First, I'll explain what's going on with her. She is a 78 yr. old little old lady with diabetes, angina and a few other health problems. She started having trouble with gallstones that moved into her bile duct became infected. Without surgery this is fatal. She was very ill and in a great deal of pain.

They did the first surgery but had some complications and needed to send her to Beth Israel hospital in Boston where they were better equipped to handle her situation.

When you are dealing with someone of that age with as many medical conditions as she has it becomes a very risky procedure.

My brothers and I were informed of the risks by the doctors and were told to expect the worst.

Those doctors were unaware of my 60,000+ closest friends and the amazing power of prayer.

Thank you all so very much. Love ya, really really mean it.

I have an address now from my brother for get well cards. PM me or send to my email rcostell@maine.rr.com and I will get it to you. Thank you so much for the offers, my mom loves to get mail it is the highlight of her day.

Well, that and doing laundry. She loves clean clothes.

This past week has been a total blur my brothers and I. Unfortunately she still needs a stress test on her heart she's been ahving trouble there and another surgery to remove that trouble-making gallbladder.

Now that I have filled you in on what is going on, lets look for the humor in it. My mother is making me do this.

My family never really understood my love of the Dis and the Lodge, the friends I have made and what they have come to mean to me. When Brother and I returned back to mom's with our bad news I posted a request for prayers. That was hard to do because I was crying so much.

Brother was shocked when a few minutes later several people responded. It gave him and I great comfort.

It also made him cry like a big baby. He was nearly inconsolable when the post hit 100.

A few days ago (or whatever, time is a mystery to me now) when we arrived at Exeter hospital Brother knew I was stressed out and mad at my older brother because he hadn't been in to visit mom yet.

When we walked into the door there was a desk with a sign that read 'information' on it with a very nice older gentleman sitting there waiting to assist the in coming people.

After a few days of dealing with us, he may have taken an early retirement.

Brother walked straight over to the desk and asked "Excuse me sir, could you tell me the speed of dark?" The very nice older gentleman tipped his head and appeared puzzled. Brother said "I already know the speed of light, but how fast is dark?" Again confusing the man.

Brother took a step back, looked down at the sign and said "This is the information desk, isn't it? Thats the information I'm looking for."

He can always find a way to cheer me up.

Over the last few days Brother has made several attempt to gain information from the very nice older gentleman (who is now our friend) only to be disappointed time and time again.

The man also didn't know if you melt enough dry ice to fill a pool could you swim in it AND would you get wet?

He didn't know where the other sock goes, what the meaning of life is OR how much wood would a wood chuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

I'm off to bed now my dear friends, I will keep you updated as the days go by, I have so much more to share with you.

Love ya, Mean it.

Brother sends his love.

I was happy to hear things are going better for you all! Know that my thoughts and prayers are still with your family-
:D Cyndy

Sleep well. Sometimes humor is the light in that dark tunnel. I'm glad you found some light during this rough patch.

As before, you and your family will be in my prayers!

Now as far as the meaning to life goes, I think the answer is probably in a Monty Python episode.
:p

The speed of dark is PROBABLY slower than light...don't you think?

The dry ice question is a very good one..I think the answer MIGHT depend on the size of the pool, just HOW dry the ice really IS and the general weather conditions.

I know the answer to where the other sock goes but people are usually frightened to know, so I try to keep it to myself. *read: Sock Bandit*

Woodchucks.......you know, I don't have the answer to that one. How much wood COULD a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck COULD chuck wood? A question man has pondered through the ages I guess.

Hope this helps your Brother. I know I don't rest easy when I have questions on my mind.

G'nite.

as my mom is 76 & went through gall bladder surgery. She did have some complications but is NOW healthy! Thank God!

I am so glad brother is doing his part to keep a sense of humor during this trying time!

blessings to you, your Mom, your brother & the rest of delswife clan.

Judy

Hi delswife!
I'm still fairly new to the "Dis" and haven't really gotten to know everyone yet. I had read the posts from you and Brother but did not put two and two together until just now. Happy to hear things are headed in the right direction and your mom is doing better. I recently had a health scare with my 75 yr. old father and know just what you're going through. Hang in there and give your mom a big hug from all of us.

How about the tree falling in the woods question...I'd
like to finally get an answer on that one!

Glad things have lightened up, keep posting!
:wave2:

A good sense of humor like that, really can get you through almost anything. My best wishes and prayers are with you all

I have been thinking about you and your family and sending good thoughts and prayers your way.

Robin, I continue to keep your family in my prayers, especially your Mom. Glad you're finding the humor - very important!

By the way, woodchucks are pretty small - I doubt they could really chuck that much wood unless they spend a lot of time working out so their little arms look like Ahnold's. :p

Love you back, really mean it!

Thanks for the update, Robin. I'm glad your mom is doing better. Continued prayers are on the way.

Robin, thanks! I woke up looking for word on your mom. She has to be a super special person to have such loving children.

I hope Brother can find someone at the info desk at the hospital in Boston to help him with the speed of dark question. It's been troubling me since I was 5.

I'm gonna ask for Mom's home address. I'll send her a postcard from Disney World (we leave in 9 days!)

Prayers and Pixie Dust for all of you.
Love ya back, Mean it! ::yes::  ::yes::

you know thats way to long for me to read, but Im gonna pary for your family right now :D

Robin, Bro and family....glad to hear things are looking up...you guys are still in my thoughts and prayers....

Robin, I was thinking about you and your mom last night and the first thing this AM I came down to DIS so I could find out if anyone knew anything about your mom.

Continued wishes of good luck for you and your mom.

Glad to hear your mom is doing a little better. And that you and Brother are keeping your sense of humor. Very tough to do sometimes.

I hope Brother gets the answers to his questions!
