Love or Hate relationship with your name

Hated my first name growing up. My parents were not into nicknames, but everyone would shorten my name to a cutesy nickname. Hated to be a little 7 year-old telling some old person the correct way to say my name--but I did it. It is my name, I can be called what I want! As an adult I don't have any problems and I have decided that I can tolerate my name, it isn't that bad--and I guess I have grown into it. Kinda like my nose--it fits me now!

Will say that my middle name is beautiful. It is Jeannette. It has a very nice musical quality. If I ever write a book, I'm using it.

I love my name, it was my grandmother's name and I was very close to her, so I am glad my parents chose it. That said, it is very hard to find many things with the correct spelling. The only thing that bothers me is people who insist my name is Jeann-i-e. THERE IS NO i !!!
I liked it enough to use it for my DD's middle name.

I don't mind my name now...growning up I was another one who could NEVER find any thing personalized. I kind of like the unique spelling now. My only complaints are people always call me Amy or Janie...and I guess it sounds a little "young" but as I'm getting older I kind of like that :teeth:

It seems no one can pronounce my name correctly - it's Laura - but most people call me Lora, I don't know if they just can't say the "aur" sound or what!

You know, it took me almost 27 years to come to terms with my name. Misty was only popular in the South in the mid-seventies, and is also popular for dogs and horses. I used to yell at my parents for naming me something so silly, but I finally grew to love it when I got married last year... I think that my last name now sounds SO much better than my maiden name...Since my name is Misty Moore, I get a lot of "Mandy Moore" comments.

Of course, my name was crucified on the DIS last week in the "DON'T NAME YOUR KID THIS" thread.. thanks a lot!

I don't really have a problem with my name, it's what my family does to it that bothers me. My full name is Patricia, my family has always called me Patty (among other things) and I hate it, hate it, hate it!!! No offense to others with that name, I actually think it is a cute name but I just don't think it fits me right. I would have rather always been called Tricia, all the time. I usually introduce myself now as Tricia but it's pretty hard to get your huge family to quit calling you a name they've called you for over 20 years. I guess I'll just have to deal with them calling me my nickname. I've recently gotten married and my last name has changed...Patty just doesn't sound correct with my new last name so hopefully it will stop some people from calling me that name, the names just don't mesh well.

love my name. love love my last name. love love love all 3 names together. so glad i didn't get my sister's name.

I was named after my uncle who was KIA in Viet Nam. There was a time when I was young and stupid that I thought I was expected to replace him in the family's eyes, so I started using my middle name. I still do use my middle name, but I am now proud of what my uncle did for our country and the legacy that bearing his name carries.
I have seen his name on the Wall in DC, and there is an intersection (the corner of Dot Ave and Whitten St. for you Boston area Disers :teeth: ) named afetr him, and I take great pride in sharing his name.

I have come to be so fond of such an honor that I named my DS after my mentor, who passed away 7 years ago.

I cannot stand my name. No one can spell it right. It sounds so stupid. I know a few people who named their dogs Heidi, but not their children.

That's funny. I LOVE my name. It's not weird (although spelled with the same vowel combination...... "i" before "e" except after "c" and in my name and in weird :teeth: ), but not too common. If it wasn't my name, I think I'd name my daughter Heidi. Plus I love the story - I always wanted to be just like her when I was little - sweet, kind, and able to make even the coldest hearts warm up - my dad says I *used* to be good at that..... I wonder why he emphasized the "used to be" part. Note to self: Got to work on that.

I know! They don't say Lorence instead of Laurence, do they? Nope. And then there are the people who call me Lara, like Lara in Doctor Zhivago. Maybe if there were a w instead of a u in there, like Lawrence, people would say it correctly. Try it with me, folks: LAW-ra. ;)

People try to call me Laurie without my permission, too. They're being nice and trying to call me Laurie with fondness, but my name is Laura, thanks.

Other than those minor annoyances, I really like my name. Short and sweet. :D
